Why not go 562 from husky, lighter, it pulls a 24” easily so a 28 with skip chain or just cut from both sides.
    Rips on a 18”
Once you use bigger saws and how fast they cut you tend to grab that one.
562 will do great for more of the time rather than just a big saw for odd cuts

Hi my husky 357xp with a 20” bar is a screamer it’s like a laser. I bet it would pull a 24” bar at a push but it’s probably pushing it to much. I had an 038 magnum with a 25” bar it would pull but struggled when buried in beech. But that saw weighed a ton.

572XP. I have one and love it.

Great saw, not too heavy, well-balanced, beautiful fit and finish. Easy to start and has a nice "feel" to the starter, not jerky. Pulls like an absolute animal. I run a 28" full chisel on mine mostly and it's certainly not short on power.

I will say it's loud, but it's a great saw. I'd not hesitate to buy another.

Mine wears a West Coast kit because it looks cool!

Looks a beast with the full wrap around does it get in the way of the bar nuts.

I would have said the 572 or the ms462 both around the 70cc mark . 500i is around 80cc and quite lite I am told . Some questions over longevity and reliability ( posted on here ) so would avoid for now .

I do like the ms462 but the 500 is only £35 more. I also like the xp tho some people hate Husqvarna, the 500 seems

to be the new kid on the block.

  4. Hi I’m after a new firewood saw to harvest the blow down trees on the farms. Until now Ive managed with my  357xp 20” and Stihl ms261 16” my mate who goes half each with me on the wood has a Stihl ms361 and 241. I was looking to go up to 25 or 28” bar as some of the trees are big in the butt. I was thinking around £900 ish what would you recommend 572xp  ms462 ms500 ?‍♂️
    cheers.?

  5. Hi all I've just picked up an old stihl 038super av magnum with a 20" bar. The saw runs ok and it starts on 4-5th pull, It's had a hard life tho the bar is worn out and the chain is had it. I want to put a big bar on it for the bigger logs. I've got a 357xp with a 20" and a ms261 with a 16" bar so I'm looking for something like 28" or 30" what's your thoughts or advice would be gladly appreciated. We have free firewood for our selfs off the farms we shoot on. Some of the fallen trees we take are over 4' thick.

  6. Hi all I'm after some info.

I found a big chainsaw bar up my uncles farm in one of the sheds its brand new but looks old it has this serial number on it 303ATLE086 18285FE it's about 30 od inches by about 5 inches wide it's got Oregon laser tip solid bar. It weighs a bit. What dinosaur saw is this off.

  7. Hi all I've been offered this saw a husky 576xp. I'm after your thoughts on the 576xp. It comes with a 24" bar. I think its a 09 model. it has a few scuffs and marks on It but hasn't done that much work. I was wondering what to offer him.??

  8. When I get these in I always try to salvage the cylinder and then fit a decent quality piston - a new OEM pot and piston is around £250 before you get in to labour.

There is nothing wrong with the 357XP - one damn fine saw IMO and have a decent turn of speed - running it with a known fault killed it and not the build:blushing::001_tt2:

They have the two M6 bolts holding the muffler on and a further 4 M5 bolts holding the lower support plate in place - reckon the bolts may have just been not tightened enough on reassembly.

Avoid the Chinese aftermarket kit as it can be suspect and make sure the saw is checked over if a repair is done - airleaks are best found before the repair is fried again:001_huh::blushing::001_rolleyes::lol:

Hi mate I bought new bolts the other day after you told m6 1 mm thread. I dogged them up tight but they still rattled loose I'm not saying 357xp is a crap saw its an animal but oak and ash must shake everything loose. Nothing seems to fall off my stihl.
