  1. Hi everyone, my rigging kit arrived today (along with my new 550xp). The kit comes complete with 2 multi-slings, one is 16mm diameter and the other is 19mm. Which should I use to attach the lowering device, and which to attach the pulley? Thanks is advance, Joe
  2. That's given me a bit more confidence, thank you!
  3. I watched a great video, i think by reg coates? on making the cuts line up for the gob by using the dogs thinking about it so i'll give them a go! thank you
  4. ah, I understand. I'll see how it feels when I give it a run, thank you!
  5. Not sure what overcutting means-just seen people driving the dogs into wood and then pivoting the saw hard into the cut and wondered if this could shorten the lifespan of the saw or some of it's components...thanks for your reply!
  6. thanks everyone-sounds like there are mixed views on it but i'll make sure to read the manual to see what advice it gives! I'm planning on running a 13" bar and chain on it, purely to avoid it bogging down and maybe overworking the engine? maybe i'm just being a pansy...any thoughts on this, or shall i just put a 15" on from the start so i have a bit more flexibility? the other question I wanted to ask is should i remove the felling dogs? I read somewhere on Arbtalk that this avoids you driving your saw through the wood and straining the engine, also gives you a bit more available bar, is this sound advice or just leave them on? thanks, joe.
  7. I have finally bitten the bullet and saved enough money to buy the 550xp. I will be ordering it tomorrow form FRjones I think. I have never had a new saw of my own and wanted to know if any of you could tell me the best way to run in a new chainsaw, or if it can just work hard 'straight out of the box'. Thanks, Joe.
  8. It's for my friend's parents and they're happy to/have enough space for a massive bonfire
  9. That's great, I'll crack on as soon as i've finished my exams...thanks for your replies everyone!
  10. thanks everyone for your replies! I had planned to wait until september to avoid nesting birds, however if I am certain that there are no birds nesting in the trees through climbing & inspecting them first am I alright to crack on at this time of year?
  11. Hi everyone, a client would like me to reduce two approx. 50ft multi-stemmed leylandii trees to roughly 20ft. I have recommended no more than a 50% reduction in height but they are pretty certain they want the trees taking to 20ft in height. They do have green growth really low, so there would be quite a lot of foliage left and I have told the customer this will look ridiculous. What are your thought? are there any chances this could kill it? Thanks in advance, joe.
