Sounds a silly question. We have evergreen trees cut as a hedge, its not a leylandi but similar, will post a pic if i can. i would prefer it a foot or two taller, if the top of the main trunks are cut will they ever grow up further?

so basically they are more likely to grow out sideways from the green and after substantial time the branches will be big enough to grow up?
I have a rockery style garden and lots of bushes that have previously been heavily shaped, if left too long is it generally ok to prune back to wood for it to regrow & whens the best time to do this?
