OK further photos to add, all taken yesterday evening. These show the tree in full height (and i have only last night realised it is actually someone else's tree - other side of the fence. I don know him well however, so no problems with having the fruit...). Also some of the bark, root, more of the leaves etc... Hope these help a little! Thanks, Paul

OK, first off; Farmer Rod - yes the fruit does have a stone. Gollum - The fruit is quite small (about the size of a 10 pence coin). The photos were taken last August (13th, although this was towards the end of the fruit bearing period for the tree, as you can tell from some of the shriveeling up of the fruit). As for black fly - I can't say for sure - it's at the far end of the garden and I'm spending most of the time doing up the house, but I can't say i have noticed any. I'll have a dig around for pictures of the tree in full height. Also, forgive my naivity, but what's 'old root sport' ? I tend to leave the gardening side of things to my wife, however I'm picking things up as i go along - she gardens whilst i renovate the house....

Excellent! My main concern was that I would collect all the fruit and it would be either poisonous or useless to do anything with...! Now i have some idea, wine and jam making here we come.... Many thanks to you both, Paul

Hi I was hoping someone may be able to help mne identify what the tree is which is growing at the end of my garden. It is around 30 feet tall, blossoms in white around the end of March, and drops small round plum-esque fruit each Summer (around August time). I've attached photos of the leaves and fruit. I was hoping to identify it as I have recently started home brewing wine, so if this is a viable fruit to use for this I should get plenty of stock each year Any help appreciated, Paul
