  5. Hi Christopher, i asked them and they said that the cs courses are separate, the course tutor is a cs assessor and re-assured me they would pack me full of knowledge for my cs courses but i have to fund them myself.
  6. It's pretty much all im doing when im not at work, I'm currently reading 'the arboriculturalists companion' by NDG James and i have just ordered 'Trees: Their Use, Management, Cultivation and Biology by Bob Watson! Just cant wait to get straight in!
  7. Caught me out there! Yeah I thought that was the case! i'll start calling around at the weekend then looking for work experience! The course will be three days a week starting in September! the rest of the time i will be working but i'll probably have weekends free. Should I do my CS tickets even though I dont have any experience though? Cheers for the advice, i really appreciate it.
  8. Hello all, It's Max here and I'm just looking for a bit of advice, I am very new to this industry and I've just been offered a place at Broomfield college in Derby for a national diploma in Forestry & Arboriculture. I have quite itchy feet and I was wondering as to wether I should look for work experience and get my CS tickets before or during my diploma, my course instructor advised me to keep reading up on the subject which I do on a daily basis! I have nothing but a huge, HUGE interest and I would pretty much love to start getting my hands dirty! Just a bit confused like so if anyone could offer any advice I would be very grateful! Cheers guys Max
  9. Mark, I really appreciate your help! And for the advice too. I've only been on this site for half a day an the help I've had has been great. Haha gotta have a sense of humour right! And yes I agree! I'll be keeping my job when/if I get on the college course, I'll throw myself into it full force when I start! I understand the money being poor to begin with and maybe for the next few years but anything to get me working in the outdoor an out of an office will do me fine! I'll be sticking around for sure, and I'll be sure to keep your updated and once again I appreciate it mate!
  10. Haha thanks Mark. I'll just get my head down and wait for it to pick up again.
  11. Hi Gollum, I'm based in Derby, east midlands. I should put that on my profile.
  12. Cheers David! I will do! Thanks
  13. Cheers Rob! Yeah i guess, i'll pretty much do anything.
  14. Good afternoon everyone! It's Max here, I am 23 years old, I'm new here and I am just looking for some advice. I am very new to the Arboriculture, Tree Surgery & Forestry world, I have always taken a keen interest in the craft and I have always seen it as a very rewarding and challenging career path. Currently I am working a boring, 9-5 job in a customer services environment, however I have an interview coming up at Broomfield college in Derby for the Arboriculture & Forestry Level 2 diploma, if I am successful I will also look into getting my CS30/CS31 certificates during the course, and also look into getting as much work experience as possible. Obviously, it goes without saying that I am willing to work days for free if it meant getting some experience behind me. When I am not working, I am reading up on trees, techniques and machinery so i can be packed full of knowledge. Is there anything else I should be doing to help me along? Any advice is welcome, as I stated I am completely new and all I have to show for myself is willing and a great interest in this field. I'm sorry for rambling on and I would greatly appreciate any help or advice anybody here has to offer. Thanks. Max
