  5. Do you have a budget or will you spend as much as it needs to get the saw you want?
  6. I was after an occasional saw and after a long thread and lots of indecision, I got a 550XP. My use is more infrequent than yours too. It's a wonderful piece of kit and I feel re-assured that for most of what I use it for, it is running well within it's limits so hopefully shouldn't get abuse Just because you buy a Ferrari doesn't mean you have to go at 150mph all the time.
  7. My 550 has a small screw accessed from the bottom of the saw case that you turn to adjust the flow rate. It has a chain symbol and a + and - symbol next to it.
  8. Should have said , I meant a spring to force the red piston thingy down and stop the grease moving away as you depress the gun. I would love to have an explanation from Husky about how it works because it seems to defy the laws of physics.
  9. My saw came with one of these and I was determined to figure out how it worked even though doing so slowly drove me crackers. The one item it doesn't have compared to a "normal" grease gun is a spring or plunger to force the grease out of the nozzle. It does though have a small air hole in the cap and I found that if you cover the hole on the downward push and uncover it when you release the grease gun, it does pump out the grease. I don't know if this is how Husky designed it to be used, but it does seem to work. I did find it odd that they don't provide any instructions at all with it. Someone in an office somewhere much get a lot of amusement from that one.

    Fake 395XP

Ebay don't care as long as they get their fees.

    Fake 395XP

What are the differences or is it completely different? It could be worth posting so that others aren't caught out.
  12. Thanks for the replies and advice guys. Very helpful stuff as usual. I like the look of the prefilled grease gun. Must make life a lot easier. I did what it said in the book to set the autotune but to be honest I really don't understand how it works or how it sets itself so I will now just use it and assume it is ok. If it gets better like Chris says, then all the better. As far as the bar lubing is concerned, I'll probably not bother then and see how it goes.
  13. Picked up the 550XP today. It is fantastic. I know I don't really have anything to use as a comparison but it is small, light and cuts like a madman and isn't as scary loud as I thought it would be. I do have a few questions though. The saw came with a small tube of bearing grease and a strange red and black thing that I assume is a grease gun. The operator's manual says that the needle bearings in the clutch drum need to be lubricated weekly and the bar tip sprocket needs lubricating with every refuel. Are both of these items lubed with the provided grease and gun. It may seem like a dumb question but the manual isn't super specific and after spending all this money i want to ensure that I maintain it correctly. Thanks.
