  1. Thanks, I have an ebay saved search in place. I'll give Platts a call in the morning, it hasn't broken yet, so I'll keep hold it for now, thanks for the offer of a good home!
  2. I have just been given a lovely old 028 AV Super, runs lovely and out guns all the 260's I've got. Only problem is I went to buy a couple of spares and found out Stihl have discontinued the chain brake band. Does anyone have a solution to this? Is there any other band that can be modified to fit? I'd hate to have to ditch this saw if it breaks. Thanks, Neil.
  3. Thanks for the suggestions, Spark plug was out yesterday and all looks good there. Air filter is cleaned every time i use it. I will check out the wire on Monday. As for the roll over test, I have tried moving the saw into various positions, but it seems to only dies when moved forward or the chain brake is taken off. In my mind I think the same force operates on the saw when this happens, stressing the AV mounts. Martin, what you say about it idling for a while is interesting, after it stalls I notice you have 10-15 seconds after it starts to release the brake and accelerate before it will stall again. Also if you apply the brake, move to a new position and release it's ok, if you stop to think about the next cut then it dies! I have stopped using it, I do like to think about what I am doing and secondly continually restarting saw is beginning to ache a little! Thanks Neil.
  4. We are in Suffolk, I'll check on the linkage, interestingly the last user described the revs like it was running out of fuel! I know no one has been messing with the screws, you cant see the heads for gunk! Thanks Neil.
  5. Can anyone help? Our conservation group has two 026 saws with problems, you may have seen my other post! The saw seems to rev to high revs by itself, I have decommissioned it and was hoping someone could suggest a cause. My thinking at the moment is an air leak, possibly in the manifold between the carb and cylinder. Anyone have any thoughts? Many thanks, Neil.
  6. Can anyone help? Our conservation group has two Stihl 026 saws, both of which have problems. The first problem is that when the saw is tilted forwards or the chain brake is disengaged it stalls. It runs fine at all other times, cuts well and has good power. I have cleaned the air filter, replaced the fuel filter to no effect. The saw has been well used over the years (1998) and not really well looked after. My first guess is a fuel line issue, the rubber pipe is a little old now! Also I notice the AV mounts flex a little more than a rubber mount 2006 260 I have, which I am guessing may pull on the line. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Neil.
