  1. DLO Chargehand left a husky 560 on site yesterday.

He only discovered this morning that it was gone.

    Suitable punishment?

    Looking at written warning.

If it was a small firm he'd be paying for the replacement saw but we're ex Council DLO and his TUPE T&C's don't include the cost of replacing lost kit.

    :banghead:

  2. It all sounds fine to me. Next planting season will certainly be acceptable.

Perhaps include beating up along the lines of 'any whip failing to establish after two years will be replaced like for like in the next available planting season' ...just a thought

  3. Greatest benefits: portable data storage, speed of data entry, retrievable data

Paper gets wet and blows away and is too bulky.

Useful application in stock inventory, condition surveying & planning

Dynamic link between map & database

Digital mapping provides accessible shareable visual data

Dead reckoning is more accurate than GPS in the urban environment, GPS is better in woodland.

Happy to write more if you have further Q's

  4. As 10 Bears said, you're bound to get different opinions....here's my tupenn'orth...

Removing the bark has revealed a larger area of exposed sapwood.

The white deposit you see is the mycellium of the fungi, check for fruiting bodies -brackets/toadstools in the Autumn. ID the fungus, check the implications for the tree.

Don't use any form of chemical control, as we don't fully understand the implications of the tree/fungi relationship.

Continue to monitor the exposed area for signs of decay, monitor the crown for signs of decline.

If crown decline or basal decay becomes significant, fell the tree.
