Hi Can anyone tell me what this is please It is at the base of a beech tree. It is white in colour with a tinge of creamy yellow in places. When bruised goes a orange/ red colour. It grew last year and that has now gone black and looks dead. Much Further up the tree there are two separate brackets od dryads saddle. Thanks Ann

Hi Yes the tree does have a TPO on it and am aware of the implications of that, but for my own peace of mind I would like to get someone in just to give me an idea on the safety of the tree, the fungi growing has worried me the tree has got a lean (luckily not towards our house) and now I am worried the canopy isn't as bushy as it has been in previous years, but that could be me just getting a bit paranoid! I would like to thank you all for your advice.

Yes he is but a large portion of the tree overhangs my property and garden so to put my mind at rest I think I would like to get this done.

Hi thanks for your reply you are probably right with the holes being bigger than what I think apparently a probe was put down the hole with the fungi on and my husband was watching and he said it went down for about four feet. Think I am going to get someone in to have a look just to be on the safe side

Thank you for your replies, have to admit some are going over my head a bit, still all very interesting however would like to point out that we did not do the fencing so not guilty! The tree is our neighbour's I just have a keen interest mainly because a large part is over my bedroom. So make it easy for me on a scale of 1-10 should I be worried about this?

Not too sure if it has ever grown there before, never taken that much notice I can't remember when the photo was taken maybe a couple of months ago. This other photo (just taken) shows the fungi to the bottom left and two squirrel holes further up to the right. I really don't think they all connect together. Also could you let me know if the white bits at the bottom anything to worry about

Hi, Yes that is where the fungus is, there is another hole further up on the side you can see but doesn't show up in the picture, that is where the two squirrels live!

Wow what a quick reply thank you I will look that up and see if it is likely to make branches drop. Here is a picture of the whole tree

Hi could anyone identify this fungi for me it is growing half way up a 150 yr old beech. I know some fungi can be detrimental to a tree and a third of the canopy covers my roof so just a bit worried about any big branches falling off. Thanks in advance for any advice.
