  1. alright guys hows it goin? right spudulike i did your test, it started, ran until she struggled then i took off the breather pipe from the fuel tank like you said and without turning the saw on its side, it ran no problems again, exactly the same as when i opened the tank, problem is the breather is clear as a drum man, all of the pipes are clear, i opened the wee ball that must be the breather yesterday and it was clean too, well the parts i could reach as when i split it it was sealed inside both halves, does this help at all? does this mean i should replace the breather system?
  2. thats brilliant thanks for all your help spudulike very very appreciated, i have a carving bar im getting from rob d for my bday and im itching to get it ordered once my saw works ill let you know cheers again spudulike
  3. thanks again mate, great advice here, i will try your other test tomorrow, my neighbours developed a twitch when i use my saw i bought my saw from a mate who used it for working wood and crosscutting, this was about 3 1/2 years ago then i got it for carving and tree work, the saw had barely been used it just wasnt big enough for him, i used it at least 10 hours a week between cutting for my fire, tree work but mostly carving, for two years without any problems until the flywheel broke a year ago and the saw sat idle really for a few months when i went working down south, and it was when i was there it struggled to keep running, but not as bad as it does now, for the last 4 months it will just not run at all, does this help?
  4. ha ha shame about the hat thanks spudulike i did your test on the breather pipe and when i cleaned it, nothing came out (thankfully) and if you follow the breather pipe up it splits to the breather and the primer, i also checked this, also clear too, so mate for fear of sounding stupid is it just to check the carb now? is that a job for me or should a mechanic be doing that? i did peek inside the carb opening the top and the bottom yesterday, it looks full of tiny screws and filters but i didnt prod too much, on checking i did turn the saw on its side to take the fuel cap off,
  5. hi there again, this is a video of me starting my saw, its running and revving then it starts to struggle, you can see me opening the fuel tank and revving it up again and no problem? i do this twice on the video, hope this helps confirm a problem, thanks for your time again,
  6. right guys, ive cleaned the breather, it was ok to be honest and ive checked all of the piping cleaned it aswell with a small piece of pipe, spudulike i couldnt find any grub screws in any of the pipes so i have put a picture in of the back of my saw, all the pipes are clear and ive rechecked the fuel filter etc. so were clear with that, but it still cuts out? i had the carb off, just so im sure mate the breather is to the right under the yellow H screw isnt it? ive had every pipe thats there off and cleaned and i split the breather apart and all was good inside, im also going to upload a video of my starting the saw and you can se it struggle then i open the fuel tank and away she goes again? like i said thanks everybody for your help on this as i am clueless now im afraid, ill put the video link up as soon as it loads,
  7. got it!! :thumbup1: i started it and blipped the throttle until it started to struggle, when it was about to die i turned it on its side and opened the fuel cap and hey presto away she went, bugger me i cant believe thats what it was, thanks spudulike mate, can get a new tank filler for about £6 delivered so is it worth cleaning the btreather on this one? i did have a look but not sure how do you clean the caps?
  8. thanks for the replys everyone, cheers jamie1, what is an impulse line? and where do i find that? cheers spudulike ive heard your the man on here with saws, how do i check the carb filters? is it the top and bottom i unscrew? or is there more inside? and ill check the fuel lines again,
  9. hi all, i have a stihl ms 230 which will not rev high, when the throttle is touched it just cuts out, if you slightly touch the throttle sometimes it will rev as if the chainbrake is on and it cant quite turn the chain even tho the chain spins freely, it will tune and it sometimes spins the chain on tickover until you tune it to stall so i think the carb is fine? also some times it will start and rev, maybe once out of 30 - 40 starts and it only does this once but mostly it will cut out, the ignition module is fine, new sparkplug, cleaned the fuel filter and gave it fresh fuel, i did check the cylinder but i am no mechanic so im not sure, there were no scores or scratches inside the head itself so again i presume this is fine? can anybody help me identify what the problem could be or what i could try next? the saw is only a few years old and to begin with was only used for carving (i am a real novice) now tree surgery is my job i tried to use it quite a lot but again i am no mechanic so i would relly appreciate some help guys, thanks mick

  11. thats really brilliant Rob D thank you very much you have a deal, brilliant site mate im sure the bird will appreciate me seeing that ,.... not ha, from i think ive found what i need though , im also looking at sprockets on your site and to be honest i have no idea which one i need? but i have picked a bar and chain, and im going to give this zebra bar a good go, thanks very much for that and everybodys advice, thanks friarsgorse ill try the zebra and see how it goes, i already have the saw so really its just bar sprocket and chain and im set, thanks dervishcarving im going to try the 12" bar, im like a child at christmas, So rob D do you know which sprocket i will need and is my next step to register and send you my cs tickets? thanks again everyone, thanks splinters il maybe try a stihl in the future when pennies arent so tight, good to see what carvers reccomend,
  12. hey guys im looking for a bit of advice on what bar to get for my stihl ms230c saw which just has a standard 14" bar, im new to carving and not very good but im really keen to get a carving bar and try harder things than mushrooms and wasps, has anybody got some advice?
  13. well it still could be blossom wilt but im inclined to think not as that doesnt just affect lower growth, if you are worried try a copper fungacide and that will take a shot at the wilt but really its a bit late for that now. Pick all of the affected leaves off mate and that should stop it spreading as if it is fungal it will spore from that point, without identifying the cause i cant really say how your orchard will fare, dont let the disease spread as much as possible and regularly check your other trees, blossom wilt is closely related to peach leaf curl so only susceptible plants will be affected, the shrub in your picture looks quite gubbed to me and considering the risk to other plants ,as it may be a carrier, id rip it out if it isnt worth much to you, let me know how you get on and if you have any problems give me a shout, mick
  14. Hi there, Its hard to tell with the bush as i cant see the leaf all that well so not 100% but it looks like a Philladelphus from here, and your cherry tree albeit isnt well it isnt the frost that did it as its the bottom leaf thats dying off, not the top, try looking for pests on the remaining stems and it could also be a root problem, try a good prune later in the year and keep a close eye on it. it doesnt look fungal either from your pic but again not 100%. Pruning and feed with bone meal later in the year should help next year,
