  1. If you use a 260 as a general climbing saw, I'd suggest you invested in another topper.

I don't get this thread... Why make life harder for yourself? If you really want to do all this work positioning stuff (never use a saw one handed...) then just use both hands on the topper. It's called the arborist/climbing saw for a reason.

I agree if we could use a top handle on all sites we would but some of the work we carry out require the use of only back handle saws and as we only do this maybe once a month sometimes more then no call for a new backhandle and as we use 260 as a general ground saw seems perfect.

  2. The Harris shouldn't be loose really az it's from USA , so it's illegal to let one go / or not make a effort to catch it .... & I think certain gov bodies will / do either catch them up or shoot them to stop any cross breeding with other hawks , which I think has happened :( !!!!

unfortunately it has happened in multiple cases. usually from yobo's who think the are experts and dont understand weight control, manning etc.

  3. I used to have mine ground after every 8 hours use. I had them ground down as far as the guide line (I guess thats what its for). Never go below it or theres not enough steel between the leading edge and the bolt holes.

As long as you can get a straight edge above or on the line, youre OK

:001_huh: we have our 200mx done every 3 months or when it needs it whichever comes first.

  4. Have I read somewhere that you can use a chainsaw if you have left school but are not yet 16 - so maybe a few weeks before:confused1:

You can use a chainsaw at any age on your own land but to use it in arb. industry (as your profession) you need to be atleast 16 to pass NPTC CS30

  5. In the early 80's I found an old unburnt incendiary bomb on a shelf by the welder in a workshop on a farm.

Was not sure what to do with it so dropped into local copshop on way home and said casually " I,ve got a bomb"

Probably was not the best thing to say in those days of bomb scares, needless to say I was there a little longer than planned!

My boss over the years has found a handgun and 2 grenades working around the border areas of northern ireland. when he found the gun the local boys appeared but never got it and imagine walking into a bullet riddled police station and placing a grenade on the counter and the whole station clears out :blushing: plus many bullets. 3 weeks ago we removed an ash at an industrial estate which had a pick head through the middle from one side to the other.:001_smile:

  6. We cleared the way for lines (phase 1 &2 out of 3) for a wind farm for ENS through NIE. not last winter but the past 2 and health and safety was an absolute pain in the a**e if the inspector couldnt find anything wrong with your equipment he would basically make things up even going as far as dirt on the number plate of our jeep. And this is without lines in the end we didnt do phase 3 for them as money wise it wasnt worth it.
