Hello,
This is a dream job for many...
However, its full of obstacles unseen.
Your tax residency is determined by how many days you live in France, a mere 180 days but you will certainly get away with longer...much longer.
Be aware though.
Your health care, insurance in case of accident etc all depend on your residency status.
In the case of an accident (who is to say...?) the Gendarmes are involved always and awkward questions will be asked and your and your employer may be hauled through the coals in a way that makes the British HSE and the East German Stazi look like a village knitting circle.
You should still be paying you N.I stamp in the U.K and being taxed either in the U.K or in France.
If there is no tax being payed during your 180days then you are in the mire.
After that the tax is due to France and if they get wind of this then every-one is in out of the more and into the foresty shredder.
U.K companies often offer to pay guardians of properties overseas duping the guardian into a position of false financial security.
Take this position at your own risk, your employer is not telling you the whole story.
You would be working 'on the black' as they say here.
I'm not telling fibs, just ask at your local tax office first.
Ty
p.s
Its like being in a prison, on call 24/7 for spoilt rich people who have the power to defaecate on you then terminate your non existant contract overnight, so go legal, get paid in Euros and get a Contract Duree Indetermine. or unlimited contract.
Best of luck
Ty
Sorry but that is wrong, we employ our staff via our UK company and they are seconded out to France thus the 180 days does not come in to play. I may suggest you do more research in to employment law before posting. We certainly did before we opened our centre in France.
You pay tax and NI in the UK your salary is paid directly in to your UK acc.
The current guy is leaving because the life is to quiet for him, hence the reason I have stated we are in a very rural location.
Its fixed working week and fixed hours so your post is rather off key. If you are interested in the position please PM me and you can correspond with the current chap as he is a member of this forum.

We have a Kioti CL 120 with a front loader great little tractor. We use it with a 13 ton splitter but have never used it with a chipper.
It comes with a 2 year warrantee.

In the new lads defence, directly after felling the tree he told me that there was an issue with the chain ( something to do with the rakers) and he was very unhappy with the cut.
As for the gloves point taken.
I think he was just a little nervous of his first day with the boss watching and videoing the fell to that end I have decided to remove the video as I am sure it does not do his work justice.

First day on the job for our new forester short video of one of the trees we took down today.

I've got a Romanian, he can sharpen a chain in 5 minutes to perfection. Everyone needing a chain sharpener should hire a Eastern European. They are great loggers too, great work ethic and they never complain.[/QUO:thumbup:

I think this guy sums it up well worth watching the video.

This was my stolen baby ;-(

Your welcome this is the toy I am after next as my last bike was stolen two days before moving to France. I like your bike collection ;-) CB1000R | Naked | Motorcycles | Honda (UK)
-
This may be old news but many people are still not aware that from the last budget motorcycles are no longer treated for tax purposes like cars but as plant and equipment. This has a significant effect on the amount of tax relief you can claim when you buy a motorcycle for use in your business.
The rules allow bikes to be treated as plant so that, in most cases, business owners will be able to claim the whole cost against tax at their top tax rate. So you can enjoy the freedom of the open road and know that the tax man is subsidising you.
The change in the law means those who pay 40% tax could save £2,728 on the cost of a new £6,821 Honda CBF1000.

"16 year old girl beaten by the police" I am sure the woman should have been shouting in the video look at 16 year old looter who was giving **** to the police getting a deserved kicking ! Man of women it all comes under the same heading " Looting Scum"

Bring in a curfew, close the areas down, troops on the streets to enforce the laws of the land with a ring of steel. Shouting from a loud hailer on a helicopter will hardly calm things down IMO. These thugs need a sharp lesson in respect.
Well said Andy

If I were back in the U.K and these scum came near my house I would show them how a MS660 works I would be having my own Texas chain saw massacre.
I like the idea of water cannons with yellow ink ;-)

If you Google Short Rotation Willow best practice you will find an excellent paper on the do's and dont's produced by the Irish government who have done a great deal of practical work on the subject. The document is very long but covers all you need to know.Personally I find rod harvesting easier to control moisture content rather than direct chipping. If you still have any questions I will try and answer.
Thanks for the link extremely interesting but rather long. It seems that rod harvesting is the best option it avoids the drying issue.
How many hectares have you planted ?

I was surprised at the lack of ppe whilst using the saw ! Not such a good example.

Thanks for the tip

What about using our small tractor to rotate the chips once a week, or installing a couple of PVC pipe with holes under the chips. I can then hook the pipe to our leaf blower to aerate the chips.
-
If you chip willow and store in an open pile it will not dry it will just heat up and rot. Normally fresh chips have to be used in purpose built boilers which can handle wet wood.(very inefficient) The alternative which we use is to bundle the willow whips to dry for 3 months in our solar kiln this reduces moisture content down from 55% to below 20% at which point we can chip as dry biomass.
What do you mean by store in the open ? We are intending to chip the willow and store it in a barn to dry until its needed, will it still rot if its inside ?
