  1. There is no such thing as an emergency TPO, it either gets a TPO or it doesn't, its also very unlikely to get protected, its a small non descript tree close to a wall and its long term outlook is pretty bleak. the amenity to be worthy of an order just isn't there if it isn't very visible from the public realm no TO in their right mind would protect it.

  2. I have my climbing ticket and have been climbing for pleasure rather than work at a woodland local to me. However today they have said that for me to continue to climb there i must now provide public liability insurance.

Is this the correct insurance and how much can i expect to pay, i'm not doing chainsaw or any remedial work at all its all just for pleasure but would like an idea of what i can expect to pay or even if this is the correct insurance for what i am doing.

    Thanks

  3. Apologies for dragging up an old thread but does anyone have an online version of this article as everywhere i have found it want to charge me money for the privilege of reading it.

    Thanks

  4. I was told recently that fresh woodchip placed around the base of a tree actually has the reverse effect from allowing nutrients back into the soil and actually robs nutrients from the soil.

Am i right in understanding that it must be left to settle for a few weeks/Months before being used in such a fashion?

    Many thanks

  5. Does anyone on here Fish? I have wanted to get back into it for the last couple of years but haven't had time but this year i'm determined, trouble is i need a new match rod and reel after selling all my tackle years ago and i cant decide what to get as theirs so much choice.

So if any of you do fish can you make a recommendation on a new Match rod and Reel?

    Many thanks

  6. We are (increasingly) seeing, whole trees shutting down that have Massaria affected branches, but I wouldn't say that the Massaria is the primary reason for complete shutdown of the whole tree system.

So does this work in the same way as Dutch Elm Disease where the tree slowly but surely commits suicide? will trees recover or is it too soon to say?

  7. good question; mine was just a quick pro bono look so far, requested after the school got an opinion from an arb who did trimming there.

given the rapid decline and duplicaiton of canopy benefits and apparent root rape, there seem to be few other worthy options.

Can you further explain the "duplification of canopy benefits" please?

  8. Thanks for all the replies so far. Despite my ignorance, doing a bit of research on it has been enjoyable.

I've had a look at the fungis suggested, can't decide which for sure, i'll maybe make an effort to go tomorrow if it's a dry day and get a few more shots and give it a scrape to see how it is under the surface to help ID it.

I'll also get the kit out and get up and have a look at the bark damage up the tree.

The tag is from a previous survey which recommended a 30% reduction, but this was approximately 10 years ago and the reduction was never carried out. The client is the kind of chap who will sue me if it falls, which makes me nervous about giving him any advice!

Following an aerial inspection would a tomograph be the correct course of action for the next step?

    Back with more photos soon!

If you do nothing and it fails you are liable! If however you carry out a reduction you could argue that in your professional opinion the reduction was enough to alleviate the issue and if the tree fails you took all proper steps. Unless the tree is dangerous and you failed to take enough action e.g felled it!

Anything you do is better than nothing as you are aware of a problem.

Also no harm in doing a Tomograph at least you will know a little more than you did before.

  9. Jago Keen was just talking about Massaria on Country File.

Checking plane trees along the Thames at Henley.

    Not found any to date.

I was at college with Jago at Merrist Wood in late 80's

This is worrying for me i'm due to survey Henley in August and they have a number of Planes dotted through out.
