  1. Here we go, well i was watching a programme earlier on TV about moving to oz and working there. They were saying that there is alot work out there are begging for people to come over and fill these vacancies. I was looking on the skilled occupation list an it seems tree surgeon has been taken off the list as of april 2011 i believe. I dont quite understand it all but i have heard of point system? then theres getting visas etc. So Is there quite alot of work out there? Is it all its cracked up to be? I would only want to go out there for 6 months or so, max a year. What are the requirments, i dont have any experience atm but i should hopefully be starting a job with a local tree surgeon in may, would say 6 months be sufficient? obviously i would still be learning alot, but would i be any use to them? I know quite a few people who have moved over there and they love it anyone ever made the move on here?
  2. Hi, As above, currently working now for a landscaping firm but wanting to move into tree surgery side of things. For a few months this winter and all last winter I have been working along side some surgeons just dragging brash, chipping, pruning, helping, carrying,Fetching etc. i am not scared of a hard days work I can guarantee You! I have got cscs, pa 1 & 6, soon to have stumpgrinding in the next month along with cs 30 & 31 in march. Aim to do cs 38 in the summer when funds allow. I have got my own ppe and full driving license. Ideally looking for something full time if possible, but will consider anything. Happy to travel. Thanks.

  4. Yes, good point there, we get the odd cowboy driving around my town, doing work stupidly cheap, stealing it of the proper legit tree surgeons. But hey suppose we can only hope about the carpet bombs. Made a few calls today and they sounded quite promising speaking to them so just need to get cracking with it now!
  5. Thanks for all the help and replies! I am willing to work very hard. I'm only 20 so quite a bit of energy ha but it all seriousness I work my knackers off when the work is there, quite used to putting in a few 70 weeks when the work is available, so deffinately not work shy. It's always something that's I have wanted to do, when I started the job I'm at now I was promised my tickets and was told that's what I will end up doing but it's tool a turn for the worse and us at the bottom of the ladder are taking the brunt if it! Anyway I'm not expecting amazing money I would happily work for Min wage if the job was right and I could pick up good skills etc. I'm in the York area, well more selby way but willing to travel 30 miles either way. Cheers again
  6. Hi all, ill apoligise now if this is in the wrong section, mods feel free to move it if so. Just wondered if there is much work out there for you lot? are you keeping busy? and also if realistically i will be able to find a job? I joined here a while back, anyway but im booked in for my cs 30 & 31 in march finally got round to it after work problems etc. I am also doing my stump grinding next week, and have my ks spraying license cscs cards and a few others although thats not really relevant. So am i employable if i get my 30 & 31 or do i need more? do employers ask for experience? Im in the yorkshire area by the way. Im working as a groundsman at the moment but i am determined to go into the tree side of things. Hope you can share some info and help me out a bit. Cheers!
  7. Ok sorry if that came across wrong way but it's not like that at all. As I'm sure some will understand, I don't like blaring out my identity out over the Internet. No I'm not a scammer, I am just wary as you never know who's reading what I don't want to compromise my job over and forum. I could fully understand and would never question it if you would tell me to put my visor down when feeding a chipper, however this sitation is slighlt different, that is more of a safety aspect. Don't take this the wrong way, not having a rant. Thanks.
  8. Why you need to know my name bud? Yeh i understand that its not as easy as some people make it out to be, lot to learn and do. Im not in no major rush, but i am hoping to get 30 and 31 this summer or at the back end of summer possibly when our work is backing off a little. Thanks for all your input, appreciated
  9. cheers, yeh think i have got a game plan now. Finally got my head round it (almost i think) Will just get my cs 30, 31 and 38 then look for some full time work, whilst getting more experience being a groundsman. I will keep pestering though for sat work in the mean time, as said not really fussed about the money. cheers.
  10. right i understand now, yup think askham bryan or andrew morton, mentioned above would be the easiest option for me. Ah will probably just hire the equipment, we have got a saw at work but i wanted to do it myself so will probably just hire it all. Cheers
  11. will have a look at LANTRA? Might sound silly but is lantra recognised qual like NTPC? Also another pissibly silly q, is would i have to provide all the equipment, eg chainsaw, ppe? obv i will have to get these at some point as work wouldnt provide me with anything Andrew morton, ill will check him out thats not far away from me really. thanks for all your help, friendly bunch
  12. So basically after my cs 30 + 31, and also cs 38 if possible. Can anyone reccommend a good place or a private ntpc assesor that i could get hold of as it would be cheaper? Seen bishop burton, askham bryam but askham doesnt get good reviews. Thanks in advance.
  13. yeh had a look at kingswood, seems a decent place, shame its so far away. Seen a few local colleges that offer training but as stated just better to go with private assesor. And eg, yes i try and see them as much as possible but they work at other depots across the country so its rare i get the chance to work with them. I will keep picking advice along the way Cheers
  14. Yeh i have considered going back to college, but that would mean obviously quitting my full time job, which i am not too keen on doing, as i need money badly to run a car, and live. The college that i would do it at is a good 25 miles away so quite a distance for a daily travel with little to no income. Or is there any part time courses, say on a night that i could do? i have had a look but cant see anything. any suggestions? So far i have gained pa 1 & 6, cscs, first aid, and few others with are irrelavent to arb. Thanks for your input bud
  15. Ok cheers, i will have another browse around and ask a few people about trainers that are good around my area sure they will be someone around here. Well its good to know that being a groundsman is benificial. I do love the job, but as stated, possibly dead end, plus i dont want to wait for something good to arise with the company and it never happen, then realise i have left it too late to do anything. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
  16. Thats great, thanks for your help. By basic do you mean just cs 30 + 31? Also another question, i have seen the tickets at bishop burton around 300 for cs 30, is there anyway to get this cheaper, i have heard some say college is just the middle man so could how would i go about getting an assesor if possible? I think i will do as you have suggested, im only 19 so have plenty of time just trying to get a bit of money behind me to fund the courses, will being a groundsman be of any help when trying to find work being an arb? Many thanks again
  17. Hi, First of all im new to this forum. Ive been a back ground user for quite a while now, and thought id take the time to register up and ask a few questions. Im not going to make this too long winded. Right so i currently work as a groundsman after leaving college studying public services, little did i know it would be so useless in the real world I have always enjoyed being active and working outside, and have always fancied being a tree surgeon, i just didn't realise they were college courses availbale. Im not sure what path to go down, the job im in atm i see at dead end, i dont think they will ever put me through any chainsaw courses etc and no chance of promotion or good money in the winter we got contract of some big tree works and i worked along side 3 very experienced tree surgeons so i have got a little experience, gaining tips and advice off them. So if you were in my position what would you do? I am willing to pay for all the courses i need obv to an extent say 5k's worth and possibly more if it meant i could get a foot in the door. If i did cs 30 + 31 would this stand me in good chance of getting employment, then working my way up from there or would i need more than the basics? I know experience in vital but i aint going to get any if i am not given the opportuninty. Iam from the York area so if anyone knows any one recruiting, or if anyone wants a help weekend work, im not asking for £10 ph just need a chance. I have looked on arbjobs and the rest but not much around. Comments advice will be muchly appreciated. Reagrds, looker123
