  1. Evening Gents, out with my Euroforest 8.5ton manual winch yesterday. Winch isn't a year old yet and only used for pulling trees over and abit of skidding.

Yesterday we felled a big Ash pulled it over fine. When it come to pulling the stem up a slight embankment it struggled and wouldn't pull it, made abit of noise then wouldn't even pull the cable back in. I'm guessing the clutch needs adjusting now its been used abit. We'll that's what I'm hoping it is.

    Any ideas?

Follow this link to the gov. website

A contract is an agreement between employee and employer setting out implied and explicit terms and conditions - written statement of particulars, collective agreements

It tells you what you need to put in a contract. There are loads of free templates available online, just google "employment contract template". I think I found one years ago on the gov website. If you can find one there I would tend to trust that most.

    Thank you mate. 😊

  3. Hello Gents,

Going to put a lad on the books thats been with me nearly 5 years, mainly because he's trying to buy a house and it'll help him with a mortgage.

Do any of you have an employment contract template I could use? As I'm abit lost on where to start on writing one up. My accounts sorted all the Paye part etc. Just need to sort a contract out.

    Many thanks.

I got to a stage where I looked at everything. I was and am usually always busy. But when you expand you need bigger yard space, more trucks, more guys and most of all more work. Then it's quality control of said work.

Then I wondered just how much extra I would be earning for all that stress.....

I figured in the end I was happy as I was which is a horrible thing to admit when the sky is the limit.

But it's a sensible decision and I'm happy where I am.

Chasing figures and having to hit constant targets just shortens your lifespan and induces un necessary stress in my mind.

    Completely agree with that mate.

I did the same and came to the same conclusion.

It's all about balance and quality of life has to be worth more than chasing figures, otherwise you'll never be happy especially with the economy the way it is at the moment.

  5. Usually drops off this time of year with nesting season and trees starting to bud.

I have noticed clients are alot more careful with their money these days and wanting the quotes broken down! so they can pick which trees to do rather than the whole lot at once.

And they seem to be getting more quotes. Definitely not winning as much work as we were before Christmas.

Ahh, did you change the unit or just the seal? My rollers would turn no problem but when you tried anything over 2" it wouldn't take it in. I took it into him and that's what it was.

Yes complete new unit. I don't think it's that! I joined the two two wires in the control box which bypass the stress control so I believe, and it chipped anything then, so must be an electrical issue or a faulty H box.

  7. Hello Gents,

My Timberwolf has had this problem for a while now, its chips faultlessly until you stick something big into it! then the rollers just won't take it! you have to try it about 4 times before it'll go through, sometime it won't be an issue, but it seems to be getting worse. Done the usual checks of belts etc all good. But I have the speed 2 fault showing once I put the engine past half revs!

    Any ideas?

To me that looks like an 80s or 90s botex maybe on a jones trailer. Either way it's early as it appears to be a ladder than a spine and shaped plate bunk.

The crane is a 5050 5m reach and it should lift 2 tonne ish close in. I used the crane on a newer trailer than that and it was solid. Could pick up a fair sized lump. I expect the lift capacity of that has gone down a bit.

Trailer is most likely 8 to 10 tonne. It will lack a steering drawbar and if you haven't had one you will be OK. If you're use to one you will miss it. Crane looks like the ram guards are missing or it pre dates them. One of the legs looks bent. Check the ram to see if it is. They are expensive to repair.

Thanks, for that, appreciate the info. Yes the ram gaurds are missing! Do you think you could buy new ones? The legs not bent just looks it in the pic as I checked them and the rams. I think she's worth a gamble as should be ideal for my needs. 🤞

If it's not braked I wouldn't bother personally Scott..... I would hope its only 5.5-6.5k max and braked.

Shame it's not on 400 wide tyres but will be ok on them.

Noticed all the wheel bearing covers are off so could have gritty shitty bearings now.

Possibly  a 5050 crane? Can't remember the numbers of the older ones.

Jasp wilsons would be able to tell you more

Well spotted on the caps Chris, the owners a mechanic and said the bearings have all be done, probably why the caps aren't on. He's owned it for 11 years as a yard trailer as makes a few Chestnut stakes.

No brakes but it won't get used much on the road with a load! more for the yard and Estate work.

  10. Remember him setting up his business and my Mum bringing his business flyer home from Malvern show, never met him but spoke on fb a few times, and knew he had built up a brilliant business.

Such a shock and a real shame thoughts go out to his family and friends especially his wife and little girls.

  11. What's bad? You came on here and asked a question because you wanted to know the answer rather than winging it. Nothing bad about that. :001_smile:

    With regards to employer's/employees mate.

Thanks for the input fellas dont think i'll be going with the insurance company that advised not to take out employer's liability 🙈🙈

  12. Insurance renewal is due so getting a few quotes in, we only use subbies dont have anyone full time on the books we've always had employers liability in place.

one insurance company is telling me we dont need it! as we dont actually employ anyone as they are self employed subbies, surely if they are working for me i've employed them for the day or week so need Employers liability to cover them.
