  1. Cheers for the reply, seems to be one way or the other. I take it from your name your saws get a ton of use?

I'm still leaning stihl here guys, especially after hearing that the needle bearing problem has been 'fixed' (need to find out when and what manufacture dates will be the improved version).

Can't fault this stihl so far. Great on a 16 inch bar. I don't have an allegiance to a specific brand. I get through a saw every 12/18 months.

  2. Iv got the same problem with the 362. It's really annoying me now and the two 261s are almost as bad. Iv heard greasing the sprocket bearing helps but for professional saws I grudge having to do that

Ring the stihl tech department and explain the problems. See what they suggest. I've never had a saw that has cost me so much in lost earnings before!

  3. Reading more and more about the 362 the more i realise how lucky i am with mine.

Have had it for about half a year now, 20" bar on it, starts hot with one pull every time and most importantly it runs like a champ.

Mine would start first time, but would then constantly cut out when back cutting a tree, or snedding out! It's gone back to Stihl so still waiting for an answer. A mate of mine has one of the first auto tune 362's and he has never had a problem with it.

  4. My old 357xp has been retired so I have been left using my ms441 2010 model pre auto tune. I'm having to swap bars over. Anything from 16 to 24 inch bar. Heavy saw for some jobs. Stihl don't get that I put my money and faith in them, to sell me a saw that should allow me to earn a living. Without a saw I can't work. It's as cut and dry as that. Each time the saw has been repaired I have been without it 2 weeks +

  5. My 362 has the same problem. Starts fine when cold. If I let it sit for 10 minutes once warm, will start; otherwise, when hot, won't start. It is brand new. I've paid the shop I bought it from $150 in "fixes". Stihl Northeast says it is the solenoid - they said it right away but claimed it isn't a "regular problem with the saw". Again, they seemed very familiar with the issue but claimed they haven't had steady complaints about it.

My saw went back to stihl HQ today via the dealer. It has been repaired 4 times now. Each time it has worked for a week or so, then starts playing up. Spoke to Stihl and they keep wanting to replace the solenoid!

I use my saw day in and day out, so it needs to work full stop. The saw is 11 months old and I think I have been unable to use for 2 months out of the 11.

When the saw worked it was great, but to be honest I'm going back to Husky.

When I read how so many people have had problems with the 362 it makes me angry when Stihl make out that only I am an isolated case!!

    Recall or refund Stihl!!

  6. Bumping an old thread! In full time grounds maintenance for a local firm, but am yearning to be working in the woods again. So if there are any local guys who need a hand on a weekend give me a shout. I have FMO certs, chipper cert, chainsaw certs and trailer license. Cheers.
