  1. ....and consider what sort of wood you will be dealing with most of the time. NB my last thread which refers to oak that i have found rather slow going on bigger cuts with my MS660. Father has got a dolmar (now made in makita blue) which is harder to get parts for and those parts are frequently more expensive. So the argument of economy over time rings a bit here. A small factor but the side chain tensioner is useful on the stihl when clamped in the mill. I think (but not sure about this) the 7901 tensioner is in the traditional place and thus harder to get to. If it is of interest this vendor, saw_doctor, sold a new 7901 with two bars at auction for under £500 a couple of weeks ago....maybe more in the pipeline.

£720!!!!!! There aren't many bits of machinery that have kept their value like that. This is approaching new 880/ 3120 values. It puts a smile on the faces of those who have kept their big old saws though.

    Milling oak

mmm...i tried to look up the power ratings of the 070 and i think it is less hp than the modern big saws of similar cc....so this must be the torque factor of older models. i will look up the ripsaws but my main issue is breaking up big logs. i don't mind the 'smaller' pieces as a well sharpened chain in a mini mill is very easy to use and quick enough.

    Milling oak

137 cc....a monster! It doesn't seem easy to come by good examples of these older big saws. How does it compare to smaller saws? I have got a lot of oak to get through soon and i am weighing up the most efficient way of doing it hence the rethink on the saw.

    Milling oak

I have been milling mostly oak beams for a few months now. I quickly appreciated the importance of correct sharpening (as advised by Rob D). However, at times with the bar of 30" or 36" my ms660 seems to have a bit of hard time. Is this what others find in oak? For those that have them, is is a lot better with the 120cc saws??
  6. thanks - i will try them. i did ring makita who inform me that the parts are the same. looking more hopeful...
  7. I need parts for a dolmar ps9010 . Cylinder and piston are scored. I understand makita took over the business.... so are the parts the same as the dcs 9010 ?? Local dealers are not optimistic.. I cannot find much on ebay... and one or two online shops list makita parts which may be the same (but cannot be sure). I do not want to order ' on the chance' it will be ok particularly as this does not look cheap! advice much appreciated.
