  1. dont need a pic. eye-to-eye are splices are not CE marked, only the rope is........:confused1:

Whether a rope is ce marked or not has no bearing on the Loler inspection does it?

There is no ce on the knots we tie either.

This is a really interesting thread because I find quite a lot of differing opinion from one inspector to the next on spliced rope.... Is this down to a need for clearer guide lines for inspectors or the inspector not being a splicer or some thing similar?

  2. I stayed self employEd with city suburban, loved it. Good lads with plenty of yard life if you want it. good mix of work... Productivity bonus works if you do. They have 3 or 4 yards now. They will hook you up a trial few days or week and you'll have a better idea. Good luck chief

  5. No one is saying much about weight... so i will...

if we're in big trees then an 11mm (i use tachyon) makes life that much lighter (with the added plus of srt ascent gear that someone else already mentioned).

footlocking, redirecting, pulling up gear it is all that bit easier....

as for the size difference and gripping its not long b4 you get 2mm stronger!!

Most of my short ropes are xtc and so is my rescue line.... value for money and strong as oak.

  7. from my understanding, if you dont use 'bona fide subbys' i.e they have there own insurance and use labour only subcontractors then you must have employees liability which will push up your premium a bit, At the end of the day a few hundred quid a year for your own ass to be covered isnt that much, it also makes you look and sound more legit, keep a copy in your van, quote book etc, to show customers should they ask. Also dont be afriad to ask other companies for copies of their insurance when you sub to them, If you are the bloke with the saw in his hand should it all go wrong you can bet your back teeth that some one some where will want to try and make you pay for it all.

Sound advice, it can be all to easy to shake someones hand and think it'll never happen to me... I'll defo be asking to see the insurance with new companies... cheers Dilz :thumbup1:

  8. Having a look through the new knot directory (spot on resource chaps pat on the back) I came across the helical.

This reminded me about a pal who uses it but was asked to find a prussic cord other than silverstreak to tie his helical because it wasn't rated high enough for use as a split tail. Or tie a closed friction hitch.

I am bringing this up because i wonder how many of us are not totally clear on what the recommendations are for the cord we use in different applications.

this link takes you to the Helical knot page... there is a couple of comments from myself and nigel...

    Any more tech info?

any one else not totally up to date?

    Thanks y'all :thumbup1:
