  1. Do you actually get on with anyone? I have read this thread am baffled as to you attitude? ;)

simple fact is mate, ever since another criticised bodges work, and I tried to expound on that in case he was made to feel bad, it had the opposite effect, and ever since he has been behaving like a little bitch with a skinned knee towards me. and im a bit tired of it.

ages ago, i mentioned this forum to a timber merchant, and he threw his head back and laughed. im starting to understand why.

i dont come to make enemies, but if a man cant give a solid opinion, without it turning into playground antics, which is always does - he's gonna make them sometimes. And I can live with that.

and on that note. continue squabbling amongst yourselves. Im gonna chat to the wife, who ive not had an argument with in the 12 years we've been married.

and tomorrow, a good hearty laugh with that timber merchant.

  2. I've never tried it, nor am I likely to, but it looks a great way to spend an afternoon off. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself.

By the way, I had never even thought of the pro's or con's of carving living wood, but I now totally agree with you. It seems just wrong to it, and there appears to be no need for it.

You know mr, there is a very fine line with things for me. Its just not what I would personally do.

I know this forester, he lives for razing woods to the ground. when he is not at work, all he is interested in doing is killing things. if there was a 1500yr old yew in the way of where he wanted to put a chicken shed, it would come down.

the other camp - those silly hippies who live in trees and say they should never be touched, protesting about roads being built - but they'd be the first to whine when their tofu didnt arrive in the supermarket.

I sit mid-way. i take a practical approach to life. I dont see the point in doing damage when I dont have to. call me phlegmatic.

the other side of the coin i guess, is a "specialist" will always find a way to justify his actions. Well im not one of those either, im happy in my ignorance and not carving live :D

  3. oh...and what kind of flying? gliding or paragliding?

do you fly? sorry to go off topic, here's a bit of footage from yesterday (iphone when not in the air), and a totally masterful bit of handling from someone at the end...

  4. Great thread :thumbup1:

I have'nt had time to read it all but the challenge to carve living wood is to good to pass up on, I just cant belive I have never thought of doing it before :blushing:

    Watch this space

make it look as good as that, and i'll tip my hat to you. game on?

  5. I know what you mean about the hand holding that can go on sometimes (nice as it can be) we all strive to work better, improve what we make and how can we do this if all the time we are told what we do is good enough as it is. constructive critasisum is welcome and suggest ways to improve, my wife is the grand master of this way of thinking and at the time you think *¥¿<* ~¤¥* but then start to look at there point of view and improve.

Must stop drinking wine it makes me phillsophical and spell worse than normal.

aye, gets a little like a sewing club sometimes, but thats the british way (fortunately im irish). constructive criticism is a tuff one, its hard to say what you feel, people often take it wrong and sensibilities are often fragile - you could be giving a view on how you see it, and they'll take it as a personal slight. Most here aren't professional / trained, myself included (crap climber to house renovator), we're just doing our thing. I think be proud of your work and not be precious about it, the next thing you build will probably be better anyway..

your call. ive said all i wanna say on the matter..

    nice pants

  7. want to compare carbon-footprints troll-speaker? I drive 130 miles per day to and from work. usually on my own in a car :( Unfortunately public transport is not possible up here in the north east of scotland as it costs twice as much and takes almost twice as long plus i dont work fixed hours and so cant stick to a train-schedule nor can i offer to car-share. I dont mind the carbon footprint to be honest, i have no kids for my footprint ends with me. what i do mind is the amount of fuel i have to buy and so the amount of tax i give to those idiots in the government to spend on their duck-houses!

carbon footprints? i hold my hands up,, 840bhp supercharged Holden VXR8. I never said I was an angel...

    what flying? para...

  8. I dunno about yogurt weaving hippies and happy endings (although, bit of a nasty insult to suggest a man might be a veggi) but nothing beats a happy ending like watching a man come plummeting out of the sky today into a hawthorn thicket... took us 30 minutes to untangle him. best laugh i've had in, forever,

  9. Please tell me where I have been rude???

grab a coffee set aside a long time, go and read it, as if you didnt write anything from either of us.

now lets end this. can we kiss and make up? hopefully you have a beard, i hate shaved faces.

look, im late, time to soar with the birds...

  10. if you were honest with yourself, which you know youre not because you cant lose face, you wouldn't carry on with this. youve been as rude as I have, although, I havent tried to patronise you.

fortunately, the wind is dropping, (although not coming from your direction), I'm going flying ! laters.

  11. Must you always resort to belittling or insults when your argument looses ground???

As for killing for survival :001_rolleyes: come on, we eat far more meat than we need, most of it for pleasure not survival and many live without ever eating meat, some don't even take dairy.

I don't carve, so won't be carving living trees, but I see nothing wrong in someone choosing to carve or have carved their own trees.

As for not wishing to argue, this is a discussion forum, so debate is pretty much the whole point, its only your attitude that makes it unpleasant.

PS, trees don't heal, they seal ;)

and you can come off that moral soapbox sunshine. If you hadn't started with the thinly veiled digs, you wouldn't have got an onslaught from me.

sweep before your own steps, pal.

listen to your argument, now you want to drag it in a different direction. just can it. go twist words with your wife

  12. Just to add as I left it to long to be to edit.

I also have a tree in our garden that I would love to carve, but can't bring myself to do it, as it is a perfectly sound tree. I can see so many differing things in the shape of it.

    dscf3114f.jpg

    dscf3115a.jpg

and yeah, great tree! I don't know what you see, but i see a woman unfolding, stretching up. A tight torso, and the definition of her back...

ok, she's a little flat chested, and her bony ass needs some work, but you cant have everything :D

you couldnt make her any better by carving

  13. So now it's me that has to spell it out.

You claim a tree cannot be owned, but you are happy for an animal to have its life taken for you to eat it, surely you accept that an animal has more rights than an inanimate plant??

Wow this is hard work, I thought it was a pretty simple concept to grasp.

why do you wanna keep arguing, are you a woman?

the point is, the veg or animals you or I kill (or negate our responsibility and let another do it for us) are done as survival, not as amusement, or childish territorial squirting under the banner of art.

I'm done arguing with you. You go carve some trees, do as you please.. im gonna go pack my gear for tomorrow, so I can float around the sky like a jellyfish with some mates, and the birds, marvelling at this glorious place from wherever the thermals wanna take us. Yowza.
