  1. Morning! Not quite sure if this is the correct forum (mods please move if not). However, I've recently bought a smallholding and 6 acre wood (hardwood) near Carmarthen. Some of the woodland is quite steep but by no means inaccessible. As the wood has had little maintenance at present there are a number of fallen trees and a lot of other stuff that lends itself to firewood etc. Originally I was considering buying a suitable tractor/winch, hiring in labour to cut up the big stuff and process wood myself (mostly for my own use). However, more recently I've thought that there might be someone local who fancies working here on some sort of informal partnership basis. Me providing the wood and land and possibly some kit, them providing labour, expertise and possibly some kit. Payment could be, by wood, provision of facilities or even cash - but would be entirely dependent on what each party brings to the equation. How this would be worked out would be subject to discussion but would have to be equitable to both parties. Please note; I am not looking for someone to work for nothing, nor am I looking for chancers, fly by nights or cowboys. On the other hand there may be someone out there who can see the opportunity of having a ready supply of wood, and enough space to process and store it. All a bit vague at the moment but if anyone would like to discuss further (or indeed has any other ideas/suggestions) please PM me in the first instance.
  2. It must be true then Life is a terminal disease.
  3. Resurrecting an old thread. But I have a smallholding and wood in Carmarthenshire. Was looking at buying a second 4WD agricultural tractor but reckon because of the steepness of the land I may be better off with an Alpine tractor like a Goldoni. What do people recon are the best makes or perhaps best bang per buck? Thanks
  4. Another newbie just saying hi. I know very little about aboriculture but having just bought a smallholding in Carmarthenshire with a 6 acre wood that I intend to try and improve and use to fuel the house - I need to start somewhere. No doubt I'll have some stupid questions for you all in due course; but I'll try the search button first!
