  1. The two factors are heave and subsidence and I think you're confusing the two. By removing the tree you will subject the soil to more water as it won't be taken up by the tree. This could cause "lift" or other problems

As it stands the tree could cause subsidence by drying the soil and cracking the building.

All depends on soil type. Staged removal is an option but a lot of people think it's pointless.

Plenty of threads on here about it. Use the search bar:001_smile:

  2. This is a discussion about tree species on an arboriculture forum - and it's proved popular given the number of posts on it this evening.

The OP could have googled some foliage images but that wouldn't have been a learning experience for anyone except him. So, please refrain from the condescending comments and help us keep arbtalk a welcoming and useful resource for people to use

What I meant was why was there so much fumbling in the dark over the confusing names of the three trees when the answers were a click away, the discussions about their merits was interesting enough.

I suppose that someone like you who started a thread to help you identify a Sweet chestnut would keep a keen eye on ident threads.

Well done anyway on using all the key words "refrain, condescending, resource

    Etc.

  3. I'm always keen to burn, we recently burned 100's of tonnes on a site clearance, but that does not look like the kind of site where burning would go down well.

I recon the neighbours would soon have environmental health out to stop you.

Sometimes it's better to apologies than ask permission:001_smile:

  4. Nice kit there Sanglier,

Hope you got a bargain of an expat moving back!

Look forward to seeing images of it being used this winter but won't you have to change the tyres first?

    Ty

Oh we will see how it gets on with the turf tyres, it's for domestic work, cutting deck will have to come off as well.

  5. Nothing wrong with banter, a bit of Mickey Taking....Everybody has there different views on all sorts of issues and subjects and that is fine. Its HOW and WHAT things are said are the issues here.

Maybe we should all follow a policy.....if something cannot be said constructively or positively then DONT SAY IT!! Lose all the negativity!:001_smile:

Negativity, there's that word again, it's almost a swearword these days, what's wrong with a bit of it? A lot of what people call negativity is in fact realism, pragmatism and plain candour. We can't all just spend our time saying "you're great! Let's all be positive!" We'd all go mad in weeks.

  6. I do realize that Steve I think this it a great site and well run. Personally im not easily offended but people do seen to use the Q word a lot which some people can find very offensive.

Hope you make a quick full recovery.

You know what? On that particular point. point taken

  7. Ha ha,I feel a bit like that bloke in "life of Brian" facing a stoning for blasphemy who jumps around shouting "Jehovah Jehovah" whilst John Cleese shouts "Don't make it worse for yourself!"

  8. that sounds like you have had one and had problems with it, was it that bad?

No it's just that IMO stick to the big brands TW green mech, Jensen etc, they've the biggest backup of spares, network of dealers, they're the most popular for a reason.

  9. Basically what or sanglier is saying then is he's only here to cause trouble? Tell me what benefit to the forum there is in keeping your membership active here if that's the case please

Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

Ok Steve, fair enough it's your forum, do as you see fit, it's not the X factor and I won't plead my case.

  10. It's brilliant for you is what you mean... :sneaky2: but it puts a lot of people off posting.

Oh Rob! that old chestnut of timid tree surgeons too scared to press the submit button in case of a harsh word from some nasty man. Do me a favour! They're more likely to turned off by some worthy bore.

  11. well you have given me options so far to think about, got to say I have never done HP always saved for stuff and then gone and got it, I think I have just got used to using tracked as they are the only type I have used but a tow behind would do the jobs I need to do so will look into them also. Has anyone used a Nixon forest chipper? Nixon Forest King Heavy Duty Diesel Powered Self Propelled Wood Chipper | eBay

    Don't touch it.

  12. Sensible post James.

Why are tracked machines SO much more expensive?

I honestly struggle to see how doubling the price is justified.

I suppose you got two machines, a chipper and a tracked unit

I have had two tracked machines and unless you really really need it get a tow behind, a 4wd pick up or compact tractor will get it most places and the weight thing when towing is a PITA.

  13. Yes, its not the most accurate description, but this is just the summary graphic. I would describe the more specific qualities in the areas below. I thought that a rating out of 5 would give a good quick-reference example which could be compared to other species, all ratings relative to each other. imagine 1 = terrible and 5 = amazing.

I do agree that its a bit flim-flam though. Do you have any other suggestions?

The information itself, once compiled is going to be comprehensive. Way way more than an ident book could ever offer. Hopefully i will have some better examples in a few weeks!

I'll have a think. Maybe a portal to another site/page which will have applications for the wood, drawbacks, ie Shake etc

  14. I find It makes me look at the other climber and think he's going quicker than me an makes me step it up a bit haha

Presumably your talking about repollarding, thinking about this today and on a few occasions there's been a couple up there on wide conny hedges etc to help throw the bits.

  15. Sanglier is bored and frustrated.

His French dream a crumbling ruin and his only outlet other than the bottle is having a pop at his worthy collegues on here...hhh!

Here's my crumbling ruin. How's your state provided social housing?

  16. Surely u just said that your amongst the sharks a usual suspect waiting for a calculated insult and oneupmanship. Just wondering why? Unless I've misread what your trying to say.

All the sharks are consulting adults. It's fun for all of us.

I do other stuff here as well you know.
