  1. Thanks mate, i'll have a good look into them all, i'm going to see if the college will send me a pack with all Arb and forestry courses available at that particular college.
  2. Hi guys cheers for the replies. I've read about the 10 week course but as I have some NPTC courses already and have some experience would it be the right choice? It sounds more like an introduction into arb/tree work. I might have it wrong though, I read about it a long time ago, also the area that I live doesn't have that course, i'm not really in a situation where I can pick up and leave for 10 weeks. The college is only about 30-40 minute drive. Can you start straight onto the ND Arboriculture course, or would I have to have some lower grade qualifications to get onto it? I think 1 day a week course is great if your employed wthin arb but as now i'm not I was thinking of something a little more full time. But not everyday as I do have work (as a window cleaner) just to get bills paid, at least i'm getting used to being at heights, thats about the only similarity between the two. I was also thinknig that if I was doing a full time course and then I found an employer would I be able to change it to one day a week? Pretty confused at the minute, there are loads of courses that all sound pretty similar. Thanks for the replies.
  3. Hi guys, made a few posts here before about employment on the other thread. Just been thinking as I've been trying for more than 2 years to get in with an Arb team and not getting myself anywhere, tried ringing the numbers from the yellow pages, applying for jobs online and sending a fair few emails with CV included and still in the same place. So frustrated and almost wanna give up but it's whatI really want to do. I thought that maybe doing some college course within Arboriculture will make me slightly more employable/knowledgeable than I am at the moment and i'd have something more to offer as now I only have NPTC 30-31 and 38-39 which I payed for myself. I've just read too much I think about Arb courses and wouldn't mind some advice off people in the know. I'm not really interested in becoming a Tree officer or anything managerial. I just want to learn more about trees in general and to learn more about Arb machinery and also to have some hands on experience during my course. The downside is though, I feel that if I was employed doing an Arb course would be alot easier and i'd be able to put new skills to the test during working hours. I've read about apprenticeships which i'd love to do but can't find anyone to give me even part time work. Just wondered what Arb courses would be suitable for someone like myself, I don't want anything too difficult or to jump in at the deep end as I woulnd't enjoy it as much perhaps. Anyway, hope this is clear what i mean and cheers for any replies. And might aswell get it on here, anyone in or around North Wales need a hand with any work paid or unpaid give me a PM. Cheers
  4. Hi does anybody know of any companies small or large that maybe in need of a groundsman with NPTC 30 - 31 and 38-39. I have been out of work for quite a while so i'm a bit rusty but i'll make up for that by grafting my nuts off. Recently had a work trial on the wirral for a largish company but havn't heard anything. Another thing I found unusual was some of the lads there that were climbers but without tickets were on minimum wage. For me I wouldn't mind, i'll work for peanuts to get some more experience, just thought minimum wage for tree work was quite low. But if anyone knows of ANY work for even a couple of days or longer and obviously full time would be the best thing I could get then please give a shout. I'm 26 living in North Wales willing to drive long distances and give a go at any type of work like on farms stacking hay, mucking out, shoveling grain, filling skips, demolition work or anything to do with landscaping. Can't think of anythig else but very keen for some work. Also i'm willing to get any further training and pay for it myself. Thanks for reading.
  5. Where did you see jobs advertised in Chester? Somewhere on the net? I'm qualified to climb as in I have my 38-39 but most the time companies are looking for experienced climbers which i'm not at this time. Thanks anyway though.
  6. Thanks, I've tried treefellers and proarb and currently there not offering any work but i'll be sending my CV so they know i'm looking for work. Cheers again.
  7. Hi I live in North Wales and am finding it very hard to get somewhere to work, looking for at least 3 days a week but will do anything thrown my way to get more experience. I'm 26 years old and have about 1 year's experience as a groundsman, happy to chip, carry logs, dragging brash, sweeping, tidying clearing or whatever.I have done some forestry work but I was chucked in at the deep end but did get some good experience out of it. The last guy I worked for was a good guy but a one man band and didn't really have enough work for me so I had to leave as money was tight at the time and I needed 40+ hours a week. I've paid for all my own training and equiptment so far and would be willing to pay more should I need to, possibly thinknig about doing my uA1 to allow me to work on powerline sites. I'm hardworking, reliable and you can call me anytime, willing to drive an hour+ to get to work. Anywhere around North Wales would be perfect, willing to move away should the right opportunity arise, would love to get in somewhere that would accept me as a trainee climber as i'm hungry to get alot more on site experience. Like I say anywhere around North Wales, possibly Chester aswell. Hopefully someone will have some contacts around these areas , I've phoned pretty much every business from the yellow pages but never had any luck. Any info off anybody would be a masive help.
