  1. Seems like a good starting kit, peteCC. I wouldn't look at things like hitch climbers and advanced systems until you get the basics right - so a good few prussiks and split tails are the better option. I think getting a side strop is a wise choice - just get a length of rope, 3m is appropriate, tie a prussik, add a krab on the one end and you're away to go.

    Good luck with it all.

was thinking of the same thing that might start of with relatively cheap equipment and get more advanced gear as i go along :thumbup1:

also like the idea with different coloured karabiners

thanks for all the advice gents can't wait to place my order tomorrow

  2. Pete

Have you tried the Duo? I would get yourself either to a show or shop where you can try on harnesses as they are all very different. I myself use a tree motion very adjustable to stay comfy

when i did my training i had chance to try butterfly, komet and instructor (andy) was kind enough to let me try his harness (austria duo 2) which suited me most

  3. ok so the time has come after completing my cs38 i managed to save up some money and it's time to get my climbing gear - i've made configuration using f.r. jones catalogue and was wondering if youse could tell me what do u think or advice what do u reckon i should change etc? (might save me some money and headache in future) :blushing:

  4. Bear with it mate, something will come along. It might not be the first firm you find, but don't give up. You've done the right thing by posting on here. I was in a similar position to you last year, and not as well qualified either, and now I subby for a brilliant firm as well as odd days with other folk from here. This is such a great resource for people like us and I'm sure you will find a place :thumbup1:

thanks for the encouragement i'm sure something will eventually come up - will definitely keep youse updated :001_smile:

25y/o who decided it's time to do something i will enjoy so looking to get into tree industry so knocked my council driving job (yes i know how to make a blinding cuppa ) on the head after nearly 5 years and went to capel manor to do my CS30,31 and 38 and planning to go for 39 once i get bit more climbing experience after (hopefully) being groundsman for some time

went around houses in North London and tried to send my CV to all the big players without much luck so settled with groundskeeping job keeping grass nice and short but still looking around to get onto trees (preferably before leaf season  ) also hold full clean HGV class 1 licence with HIAB and CSCS cards and own PPE
