  1. The Rosselli one is only marketed by Oxdale, manufactured in Italy.

I would not trust a saw made by Oxdale after a bad experience with one of their log splitters.

Came with an incorrect manual, the device to stop the PTO pump turning was a short length of totally inadequate length of weak chain and very little clearance made fitting or removing the pump a very painful and often bloody experience.

In my opinion not fit for the CE mark on it.

  2. I read something recently about the CE mark on stuff that complies with applicable European Union directives.

The Chinese were sending stuff to the EU with slightly different CE logos but looked enough like the genuine one to fool most people who aren't familiar with the proper CE mark and rules.

When asked they said it stood for China Export !

I was speaking to a guy in Cheshire recently who makes very good log splitters - he said he couldn't compete with the stuff from shitters-r-us as people would prefer to save a few pounds by buying junk.

    Looks familiar ?

  3. typical Chinese build quality.

I bought a Chinese pole hedge trimmer with a swappable chainsaw head, off Ebay.

First time I use it, it p1ssed 2 stroke all over my leg.

Seller wasn't keen to send a replacement filler cap until I reported him to his local trading standards.

Soon after the bolt to tighten the chainsaw stripped the threads in the hole it went into, steel into aluminium....

So I got rid of it on Ebay and bought Stihl, twice the price but light years ahead in quality.

Its like those Chinese compact tractors all over Ebay now, people are taken in by the reasonable price and the bright shiny look of them.

But the build quality under the shiny plastic is poor. I watched a demo one being started at a smallholders show last year and it sounded and ran really rough.

I was considering a Chinese quad but think I will stick with my Hondas.

  4. Have you guys tried using sawdust, wood chippings etc??

I'm not so sure on the paper idea, but woodchip and sawdust might burn a bit better.

I tried one of those compressed sawdust blocks the other week, the one wrapped in waxy sort of paper that you light at each end.

It burnt slowly once it got going, very little heat output and after a while it disintegrated into sawdust which just sparked and fizzled out into a black mass of useless dust.

A £2.75 waste of money, luckily I got it for free along with some other samples of wood fire combustibles.

  5. I'm guessing that Pwlhelli's too far but Kindlett from here (Wyn) may be able to help. It looks like he's not active currently but you may be able to track him down via ebay (look for firewood in that area).

Thanks but that is a fair way away.

Was hoping for somone more local.

  6. I have not seen another on ebay since but not been looking. You can buy one new for 2.5k but by the time u put it up and concrete floor your in for 5k. Large poly tunnels do come up on ebay

    Thanks

I did some googling and came up with this company

Polybuild Gallery Livestock - Sheep and lambing shelters

Just got off the phone to them, very helpful and friendly. Sounds ideal for my requirements and as they are near Portsmouth will be ideal for getting over to my gaff in Brittany.

  7. I bought this off ebay have mesh sides holds about 100 cu when piled 2m high. The pic was taken about 3 years ago before it was concreted and mesh sides put inside so it could be banked up to 9ft. With a bit more time will get some recent pics

that looks interesting, just what I need.

Was it a one off or are they on there regularly ?

  8. HI wood4life bigger the tractor:thumbdown: mate the bigger the red dev bill :lol:mate get a pto hyd log splitter small tractor 60/80 hp small bills mate jon :thumbup:

When I said big tractor, it was in comparison to my 18hp Yanmar.

I just bought a 65 HP Renault 4wd, an oldie but a solid old thing for £3000 and no VAT as private sale.

  9. No, not a new magazine but I would like to ask you good people the opinions for and against different brands of kindling machines.

I am looking at the Kindlet and the Posch autosplit. In my very inexpert opinion the pros and cons for my requirements are:

The Kindlet handles offcuts as well as rounds but bagging looks to be a real pain.

The Posch is easier with bagging but only handles or square chunks of wood.

I welcome the opinion of all on here as it would be a major purchase and I want to get it right first time.

If there are other brands that might be better please let me know.

    Thanks all !!!
