  1. I appreciate that this is seven years later, but can I ask where you got that metal clip from. I have broken the plastic tab on the upper handle, and when I pull the trigger, the throttle linkage moves out of it's housing. I can order another upper handle replacement part, but the plastic is a bit naff and prone to snapping.
  2. It looks like it's leaking from underneath. Eg, need to replace the oil hose.
  3. Ok, thanks. You've given me some pointers.
  4. So I purchased a saw off FB and buy the time I got home, the mat in the car footwell had a considerable amount of oil leaking. It's obviously chain oil, but given how much leaked out in one hour, I suspect the tank will be empty by morning. Is there anything that could be obvious to look for. I can return the saw, but if it's something minor then I'll probably just hang onto it.
  5. Main reason is that the Hyundai hedge cutter is not that great. Hyundai uses 9 spline configuration.
  6. I’ll pass judgement at the weekend. I suspect it has far less vibration than the 50cc Hyundai engine it has replaced.
  7. I fully concur with that statement. There are some great videos on YT of people demonstrating how **** the engines are. The comments are 😂 too.
  8. I had to Google ‘Triggs Broom’ 😂
  9. Just wanted to post a follow up. So I purchased a genuine Honda GX50 ST4 power unit and it swapped straight out with the crap Hyundai engine. The Honda is absolutely sweet! It feels like a Rolls Royce in comparison to the 2 stroke Hyundai. my next challenge is to see how I can change the clutch unit assembly and shaft so that I can use Stihl attachments.
  10. So my plan is to swap out the Hyundai With
  11. I think the Honda GX50 is the same. I can get a genuine engine, not one of the knock offs for £270
  12. It's a spline style pattern as opposed to the square shaft of Stihl
  13. Does anyone know whether there are any decent power units that are compatible with Hyundai attachments? I'm chucking the Hyundai in the skip as I'm tired of never being able to start it without it turning into a physical fitness session. I want to have the full setup of hedge cutter, pole saw and strimmer/brush cutter, but conscious that I'd easily spend £1500 to buy all of that in Stihl or other named brands. Hence the reason to try and reuse the attachments if possible.
  14. They are utter **** I've hardly used mine and it's going in the skip. I have to use engine start to get it started. I gave up trying to start it today. You can't expect much for such a cheap price. I'm going to bite the bullet and get a Stihl.
  15. Can someone advise as to when I can take down a lot of hedging and two large Cherry trees? I ideally would like to also find someone near Basingstoke who offers a shredder and operator service to shred down the hedging and tree branches and take away the vegetation. Just need to get the hedging down asap before the weather gets too wet and cold.
  16. So I took the plunge and purchased the Hyundai multi tool cutter. So far I have cleared two trails and I am really impressed with the kit. I now need to start trying to secure some funding from local businesses in the hope I can purchase a BCS Tracmaster 640 with flail and a small petrol woodchipper for pruned branches. The fail mower is an awesome piece of kit and it is just what you need for running through brambles and stingers. So long as trails are given a good clear at least once a year the brambles and saplings don't have time to get established.
  17. I have been an IT desk jockey for 25 years now and at nearly 50 it's a struggle to stay motivated and abreast of the new technologies that seem to arrive every few months. It's strange to admit it, but I get much more satisfaction from clearing an overgrown trail for people's enjoyment than I do regarding writing IT software 🥱 I didn't realise I could quote for clearing trails. PS - good tip on the brush cutter though. ScrewFix just tend to hand over a replacement there and then.
  18. I’ve had a logo done and am going to stake one out when I clear a trail. Bush Wackers#5.pdf
  19. That's a very kind offer. I am based in Dorset so a bit of a trek. I think I am just going to purchase the Hyundai set for starters. I'd love the Stihl, but a rather too pricey.
  20. This is the whole joke regarding individuals volunteering their precious time at weekends. Being given hand tools is just insulting and makes a complete mockery of people volunteering. My local council did put me on a brush cutter course 5 years ago when I was able to volunteer during the week. Now it's weekends only and clearing a trail with hand tools when a hedge cutter and pole pruner will tear through it in no time is just a false economy. I am not sure how you change the system, as from my experience the council are stuck in their ways and bridleways / footpath maintenance are at the bottom of the list with an ever shrinking budget. In the US and NZ they do things differently and local businesses and individuals can sponsor a trail. This all helps to keep the network open. I have suggested many ideas to my local MP Simon Hoare (completely useless) and the local council, but you may as well talk to a brick wall as they don't do change. I'll get in touch with the relevant land owners and see if I can broker a deal whereby I keep the narrow wooded parts clear and they run a tractor and flail down the grass sections.
  21. 😂 I have never had my day in court, but I am sure it would be interesting. The council using public money to prosecute an individual for clearing bridleways that they are responsible for and don't bother doing.
  22. I am probably being a bit harsh. It does come with a 3 year warranty, so that in itself is pretty good.
  23. I have been looking at this model, but just concluded it must be cheap rubbish. It's looking like I might have to give one of these a try as the professional type offerings are very pricey and the wife will string me up if I spent serious money on equipment.
