  1. Could any one with the knowledge inform me if trees that have lost 50% needle cover from Green Spruce Aphid will:

    Survive?

    Recover their needles?

    Affect other neighbouring species?

    Thank you :001_smile:

Sorry no prizes other then a pat on the back for being so clever.

  2. That is a great piece of film work.. a three minute EPIC.. Very inspirational and wonderful feel to the whole thing.. Great climbing moves and finess... SOOO GOOOD...

Every once in a while I take my woman climbing and make love in a tree... Its a very good thing...

er Dadio... getting a little kinky with your tight tops and airborn antics. are you wearing all the appropriate protection whilst messing about like that in the tree???

  3. Aside from that we are saying that if someone bought a house with a 150 year old beech in the garden and started taking chunks out of it or felled it completely and it was not TPO or in a conservation area, then there is very little anyone can do?

That point is certainly correct- and I'm glad it is. Got booger all to do with anyone else what they get up to.

There's nothing stopping any concerned party asking their local tree officer to look at a tree and put a TPO on it if there is reason to believe their is an intent to fell.

  4. wow.....thats superb mate.....and a beautifully shot film. Good work.

Im intrigued as to what makes you an 'ethical' tree surgeon however?:001_smile:

I've a tree planting program to restock the local area. I give advice to retain and replant trees where possible and appropriate. If a client wants to take down a particularly beautiful or hertasge tree I would be prepared to inform tree officers and get a TPO on the tree.

  5. Untill the day comes where is is clearly stated in law that only qualified operators can use chainsaws then there will never be a black and white answer.

You legally have to be gas registered to installl boilers the same should be for the dangerous tools we use. Its one of the few power tools i think you should be qualified to use as it can cause horrific damage but you cant police the world.

And as it is we have all got used to the system and use it good or bad to our advantage as i will admit i dont always do risk assesments on domestic jobs im terrible i know :)

and i know plenty that do it themselves and get a mate to sign the paper

  6. am i doing something thats a big no no:thumbsdown: in my picture? I am aware that siting on the trunk im milling wasnt a good idea, i wouldnt normally be working like that.

I have to agree that I think training is vital when using powerful equipment, the worst thing i have seen was a guy last winter one handing a mid sized husky above his head letting the saw cut through the branch then swinging the saw downwards as it cut through, wearing old school farmer spec ppe, (flat cap and glasses, i couldnt see if they had chainsaw protection)

if you need to reach the branch you need to reach the branch. why walk back to the van for the pole pruner and waste 20 min :laugh1:
