  1. Thats grand, sorry its taken so long to reply and say cheers, so cheers a lot!
  2. Hey. I have been using chainsaws on and off in my current profession (i work in conservation) for a wee while now. But this coming winter I am hoping to get contracted by the RSPB to undertake felling work on one of their reserves for 8 months. At the moment I am unsure if they provide insurance for the contractors, but I think that is unlikley. I think that for me working as a sub-contractor for the RSPB doing tree-felling, I will need Public Libility Insurance, but what should I look for and where sholud I go for this. Iv got a couple of quotes on the net, for gardening plus chainsaw use, would that be enough, or should I look for insurance just for forestry work? Any advice would be great! Thanks a lot, Ash
  3. Got it sorted last Saturday at the Scottish School Of Forestry, my assessor was Neil Valentine, a top bloke and I can totally recomend him to anyone wanting to do either their training or assessment. Flew through both the 30 and 31, he said he couldn't fault what I was doing! (Sorry, dont mean to blow my own trumpet, its just good to hear those things!). I found alot of usefull info on this site prior to my assessment, so cheers to everyone on here too!
  4. I was thinking the number 21 on the chain was 21bp, meaning the chain gauge is .058"/1.5mm, if it was 22 then that would make the chain gauge .056"/1.6mm, so Im guessing that as my chain says 21, thats that is going to be meaning 21bp, and like "bob" says, the 346xp runs the 1.5 or 1.3, so its gonna be the 1.5 gauge with mine as its 21bp, and so that should mean its is going to be a 3/16 file, I think. Argh!!!! BRAIN FART!!! Too late to think now, need me bed:001_huh: but yeah, thats great, cheers alot for that. Aye its all too bloody confusing, there must be an easier way, but if there was, I guess at least one of the companies would be using it, cos I and Im sure everyone else would buy those chains!? Thanks alot!!!
  5. Hello, I recently bought myself a second hand 346xp, its the 46cc model. I usually use the work saw, so the chains and files are always there, and I have never really had to think about this all that much, I realise this is a bit of a silly question, but well when your not sure its best to ask! The 346xp has a 15" bar, the numbers on the chain are 21 and 25 (I cant see the numbers on the bar). Am I right in thinking that for this saw and bar, I will be looking at .025 (is that the same as 0.325? not really understanding that), 0.058/1.5mm gauge, and for that would I need a 3/16" file? Please let me know if Im being completly retarded:confused1:, but like I said, when your not sure, its worth asking. Cheers alot, Ash:001_smile:
  6. Cheers Tree Cutter Stu, but unfortunatly I got out-bidded on the rancher, but... I did bag myself a 346XP today! Its the old 46cc, but that should be fine for me. Cheer to everyone that posted on my 2 threads.
  7. Hello. Cheers for all the advice I received in my other post. Iv now found a 445 rancher, half the price as in the shops, used but in good nick, what are your thoughts on this saw? Remember Im not looking for and cant afford a full pro saw, but I am looking for something that I can uses all day 1 or 2 days per week. Cheers again!!!
  8. Cheers for the advice you lot, I figure whatever work I do with the saw in the future, none of its gonna be 8 hours a day, five days a week, at max it will be all day 2 days a week, so recon I dont need the full pro saws. Im looking at the 455 rancher at the moment, and the 445, dont have long to decide though, what do you guys think between the two, both are the same price, but the rancher is second hand, the 445 is brand new. Cheers again!
  9. deary me, I cant keep that to myself, I feel like a right pric*, its on ebay, from the states.
  10. ha ha, well.....Sorry mate, but unfortunatly seeing as my max limit is £300, and I cant only find one saw that I think is tough enough in my limited price range, Im gonna keep that to myself, sorry for being an ar*e, I wouldnt normally not let on about good deals, and feel a bit shi* doing that, but Im gonna be stuck come the end of the month if I cant find a chainsaw. Hope you dont mind me asking you now, but what do you think of the 445?
  11. Cool, urm...why would you say that??? Dont worry, I will be working with one of my work mates, he used to be a chainsaw instructor, so Im not going to flatten anyones house, plus the trees are not complicated fells, no climbing of limbs to come off, Im not going to do anything over my head! Thanks alot:001_smile:
  12. Hello, Im new to this forum, but finding alot of helpfull information! I have just done my CS30/31, and I have afew people asking if I can do some small tree work in their garden, so Im not looking for a hardcore chainsaw, really because I wont be using it everyday, and also because I cant afford to splash out on one!!! My limit is at about £300, and I know I aint really gonna get a pro saw for that. What do you guys think would be good, or worth it? I have seen brand new 445's kicking about below £300, are they worth it, can you suggest anything else? Thanks alot!
