  1. i know how u feel mate!! i injured my back and doctors were useless!! had every chemical injected in and even surgery!! none worked!! i went to private physio they gave me specialist exercises which sorted me out within few months expensive but worth it!!! i was paying 100 euros per 30 min session 3 times a week!! local anesthetic injections help too!! but they not always willing to dish them out!!!

  2. Hey Paul

IT is lvl 3 it achieves this by incorporating a business studies course, i know this because the Army is funding me through it and it needs to be lvl 3 for the funding. Apparently its the only course of its kind!

    Cheers

    Dave

  3. while on the prince trust i was asked by one of the youngsters " why should i work??" after giving him loads of reasons i.e self worth, pride contributing society and making better life etc. he replied no point Govt give it me for nothing and he explained his benefits to me, this 17 yer old got his flat fully paid for about £220 cash a week plus other stuff. all because he was unfit for work i.e too lazy and knew how to milk system. he then laughed and walked off. To be honest i was dumbfounded!!!

  4. i personally disagree. i'm in the "army" currently as an instructor. We have same trouble with youth, and the army has had to change around them!! i.e make it easier and less disciplined other wise nobody would join. its a shite state of affairs, im not tarring them all with same brush there some excellent young ones out there but there is also alot of cannon fodder. if we made it compulsory then we wouldnt be able to trust them with a sweeping brush never mind a rifle!!! or i would be looking over my shoulder to make sure they wasn't going to slot me!!!

Did you know the minimum reading age to get in army is 5 yrs old! i regulary have students that cant read or write properly its a joke!!! they just blame it on dyslexia, cos its an easy kop out!!

Tom if you pay peanuts you'll get monkeys!!!!

My dad has same trouble in building industry his gang has average age of about 55 cos they cant rely on youth even turning up never mind doing job when they eventually do get there!

  5. i agree totally, i recently volunteered with princes trust to mentor and coach disadvanteged youths, they had it on a plate but still couldnt be bothered, companies were virtually giving them jobs but they couldnt be arsed to even turn up, and when they did went straight on a fag break! Nearly drove me to an early grave it did!! They dont realise what their doing and dont even care!! One of them thought it was funny that he was on more money than me through benefits than i was serving in the Army!!

Pisses me off because now ive decided on a career change and wanna enter this industry as a newbie, companies dont wanna give me a chance cos they think i will be same or dont want the hassle!

Dread to think what this country will be like in 10 years??

there are a few good young ones out there though, but not many!!

  6. Hey Freebird

im pretty much in same situation as yourself, i'm leaving the army to pursue a career in the industry, with zero quals and even less experience. luckily the army pays for all my quals before i leave. at least you got youth on your side i'm 34!!!

ive also had same trouble as you trying to find some work experience. i find it amazing that they pass up on free labour, and it does get me down especially as im mature and a real grafter. the army trusts me to look after £100 million of state of the art kit, but a company wont let me drag logs!! crazy!!!! anyway dont give up mate i aint!!!

The government have allsorts of schemes for young people so poss worth looking into that in your case!!! I'm too old and earn too much!!!

i have managed to sort a bit of work experience out but not till i got my tickets, i have sent tons of emails , i got it by going down to their office and speaking to their boss, emails get forgotten about and phone calls forgotten mate!!

good luck and dont give up!!!!

    Dave

  7. Hi all,

Cheers for all the advice and comments , really appreciate people taking time to answer my questions and give their opinion.

Shep i'm pretty much same as u, my g/f is pregnant too, due the day i leave the Army. Also in middle of a divorce too. dont do things by half me!!

But to be honest just makes me more determined!! with regards cushy posting the army dont give a toss, they working me to death till i go on my resettlement leave.

Does anyone know of any good companies or have any contacts in dorset area?? I'm about to start contacting companies to arrange some work experience / taster days. but last thing i wanna do is get in with bad company and learn bad habits or have bad experiences before i even start!!! As i'm sure they'll be cowboys out there just like there is in all industries!!

    Cheers and best regards

    Dave

  8. Cheers for the comments guys.

I'm under no illusion that i'd be on the bottom rung of the ladder.. so to speak and that it will take time and alot of hard work. and prob alot of knock backs. to be honest i'm proper excited at prospect of this new careerand cant wait to get started!!

to answer earlier question i got my hgv C+E and am well experienced in driving Hgv's.

The actual courses are being paid in full by the army so they wont cost me a bean, i also got the option of taking further paid courses!!

    cheers Dave

  9. Hi all,

My name is dave smith, i'm 34 and currently a Soldier in British Army, been doing it for 13 years and have decided enough is enough. i have decided to pursue a career in Arb / Tree Surgery . i am a complete novice with no experience at all.

Have always been an outdoors person and i think this career would suit me down to the ground. i'm an extremely hard grafter, and used to working in extreme, dangerous and high pressure conditions, not to mention extremes of weather.

I'm not naive in the thinking that i can just breeze into the industry and get a job!! i know i'm going to have a steep learning curve and work my ass off. i'm not afraid of this quite the opposite in fact, i cant wait to get out there and face new challenges.

i leave the Army officially in Sept but should be free from July, it is my intention in the meantime to get my quals and then do some work experience/work to put it into practice in the " real world "

i'm about to book some training with Kingswood Training Services which will give me following quals : cs30,cs31,cs38,cs39 stumpgrinders & chippers. anyone any experience of this company???

it is then my intention to get some work experience / work and hopefully a job. would prefer in my area but would be willing to travel. i'm currently based in Bovington nr Wareham in Dorset and this is where i will live after.

anyway any feedback positive or negative, suggestions etc would be greatly appreciated.

    many thanks in advance
