  1. La Chevrolet, will be tugging Larch Frame, Firewood, Dead Landrovers up and down the M6/M40 again next week, honk if bits fall off!
  2. Just about to put up a nice two storey larch frame strawbale exten. The customer wants to keep this very old ash, I've said if it were my call id get rid. No matter how much you love trees you don't want them demolishing your house, can always plant some more elsewhere. The tree has sprung from the ball of a much older tree, strangely not much roots found while excavating right up to it. What you think?
  3. My local elec company has had new Bremach machines for a few years now, mainly fitted with cherry pickers. They look the business, if I see one stopped I'll take some pics...
  4. Top info, thank you gents! I may come back with more Q's regarding exact spec as it takes shape. Re the speed issue, some of the one's I've seen seem hellish slow, I really don't want to be stood there thinking 'I could do this quicker with me axe!' I've toyed with the idea of building one of these [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bVAAx3mMKY]YouTube - WORLDS FASTEST LOGSPLITTER[/ame] but I just haven't got the beard for it ! Thanks Again!
  5. Having seen a few home brews I'd quite like to have a crack at fabbing my own log splitter. The main priority is speed. Can lay my hands on most of the bits and bobs required, but I'd quite like to invest in some decent hydraulics, specifically a decent control valve and a pto pump. Any thoughts on the best options? tanks in a van:thumbup:
  6. 99.9%, then 99.8, please tell me where I went wrong, I can't stand rejection! I'll try and remember to get a pic of the Chevy tomorrow on la phone. I wanted a Landcruiser for pulling the green oak around after I blew a gearbox out of my transit with the big ifor, but they're so damned expensive. Then I stumbled over Big Ted, will literally pull a house, its no worse on fuel than my old td 110 Landy, and it's more comfortable than the sofa in my front room! It even smells of dog, what more could a man need, I love it! I'd like to take the silly step side tub off it and do a proper tipper job on it, but then there are lots of thinks I'd like to do if I had time, money, no wife, etc... TTFN.
  7. Hello all, forgive me for picking up an old dead topic, but I just signed up and I've been trauling through topics for a few days giggling at all the funnies, and this one really made me think I need my head seeing to! I too only started up this winter (good winter to start!). I started selling logs etc as an offshoot of my oak framing business. Sadly no big start up fund, in fact litterally no money. I borrowed £1500 for advertising and website, bought a few tote bags and borrowed a few grand more for pre processed stock. I've litterally been run off my feet! Anyway back to topic... I run a stripy multicoloured old smiley face transit (lwb van body) and a Chevy 1500 ck 6.5 td pick up (which will pull a little bit more than a Landy in front of an ifor LM186 - 7.8t is record so far - off road of course officer!). Both of these vehicles never cease to amuse my customers and really stand out compared to the white cabstar the other chap in my area uses (no offense to cabstar owners - clearly a much more practical option). Anyway, while I appreciate looking smart and professional is important (works for eddie stobart!), its your relationship with the customer that really counts I think, especially if they want to know how much a level load in a navara is, in cubic millimetres! I don't have any money to put into my business but I've picked up dozens of customers simply because I answer the phone, I turn up and my stuff really burns. I only sell kiln dried hardwood, and I always stack for the customer (I've even been taught how to stack "properly" by one guy who wants it done to the standard his old dead dad would be happy with:confused1:), and I usually get invited in for a cuppa after! I'm charging more than double the average I've seen on here but most of that is transport costs in getting my stock (I'll be producing my own this summer!) The point is, as one of my best customers said "you are a wood experience!" Its always about the service first I think. Your brand is not your logo, or your truck, its you and the service you provide. There, thats my first post over and done with, I promise not to be such a wind-bag any more! Regards, Scamp.
