  1. I appreciatee that, i was just trying to find out what you could earn if the forestry doesn,t work out. I've done alot of crap hard jobs in my time, and i've got to the point where i'd rather be happy and earn less then more and hate it. As im sure the few days experience with you will show me what its all about, look forward to hearing from you.
  2. Oh well, best to be happy in a job then unhappy, cause your a long time working.
  3. I do kind of agree mate, but the last job i was on, the climber couldn't even put a decent face cut in a tree, and he got in to big trouble just trying to fell the thing. I do believe its down to the individual.
  4. Nothing really, but i came from the building trade where i was getting around £130 a day. I've always been into the trees and im just trying to get a living from it, and £80 a day at 34 is not a living, its only just surviving. All i want to do is stay in the game as i REALLY enjoy it and the people who do it are always very friendly and helpful.

  6. Wouldn't know what sort to buy lol
  7. No, i'd say more. They get £120 just for own ropes and harness, while using the companies saw's and petrol etc. Doing C38, 32 & 34 by end Feb
  8. The climbers around my way tend to get £120, i get anywhere from £75 - £90 aday as a groundsman.
  9. Hi All Im 34 and i've been a groundsman (CS30/31) now for just over two years. I freelance between several different companies that keep me going, i enjoy this as i get to work with different people and learn different ways of doing the job. Was just wondering would it be worth me getting my own saw and a few other bits and advertising myself to more companies so that i kind of work for myself and turn up with my own kit? If so, what kind of day rate could i charge? (Im getting about £80 a day on average)
  10. Hi All Im 34 years old and a little over two years ago i had a change of career and headed over to tree surgery, something i have always wanted to do. At present i only have have my CS30 and CS31. So my dilemma is, in January im going to get a couple of more tickets but not sure which ones to go for. My choices are to do my CS32 and 33 followed by CS34 or to do CS38 and CS39. Im hoping to get into the forestry side of things but im having great difficulty in getting a break. Should i stay on the ground? am I to old to start a career as a climber? Thanks, Lee
  11. Hi Mate

Im trying to get into logging/forestry work, basiclly working in a forest cutting trees down all day. Im struggling to get into this side of it and was given your name to ask. Im a groundsman with 2 years experience with CS30 & 31, im hoping to get CS32 & 33 done in January. Am willing to travel and work away if possible, any help or contacts regarding this matter will be appreciated. Thanks, Lee

  12. Hi All Im new to this sight so bare with me. I've been a groundsman for two years now and i really enjoy it. I worked for a guy that had a small contract cutting trees down in a wood, and i absolutley loved it. So since then i've been trying to get into that kind of work only, but im really struggling to get into that side of it and find out where and who does it. So in brief i would like to work in Forestry where i cut trees down all day. Any help with this would be appreciated. Travelling and working away not a problem. I live on the border of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. Thanks, Lee
