Here’s the thing , we have two surveys on the books left in and I’m tempted to do them today , in light of recent storms and they are in heavily used public areas I would argue it’s essential?

Similarly I have a tree to do today that was I.d'd as a hazard in a survey 2 years ago and the company that manages the grounds has only just got round to getting it done. It's a location where we can quite easily be distanced from everyone and as there is only 2 of us, we will be able to maintain the social distance recommended gap and get it done. I am going to postpone the private work I was doing tomorrow as it's in a garden and it will be a lot harder to follow the guidance. After today I think I'll wait to see how it all pans out. I expect Bojo will have another cunning plan for us by this evening.

  3. I personally think it is fine to use a top handle chainsaw with one hand if not safer sometimes. I have come closer to having an accident using both hands on the saw, a good example of this would be doing a step cut and the branch snapping off before predicted, you instant reaction is to try and grab the branch before it goes through that green house below. all could be avoided using cut and chuck.

I think it should be touched upon when people do their use of chainsaw in a tree, maybe not told to use a chainsaw one handed but in a 'if you do' kind of way.

As Reg says its each to their own and I'm not telling anyone to do things anyway but they way they know best.

I actually know someone who cut themselves doing exactly what was described above. Except it was a fence, not a greenhouse. Though the incident was down to lack of experience imo, a more experienced climber would have either step cut a smaller piece to snap off or cut and held the piece. But I think that it shows that experience is the most important thing in judging what technique to use and when.

  7. When I was working full time as a diver I heard loads of excuses for guys who wanted to get out of the water.

The favourites are;"I have to get out, I've lost dexterity in my fingers!"? Or, "I have to get out, I've got vertigo..."

One bloke didn't turn up at all one day cos his cat was poorly..

  8. Went out to the alps last month for some rock/alpine climbing. Got away with carrying my rope and some Krabs in the hand luggage. That was with EasyJet, the hold luggage was 0.5kg under the limit but there's no weight limit for hand luggage. If need be tho book an extra bag in advance as its a lot cheaper than paying the excess at the airport.5kg's over at the airport = £45, booking extra luggage in advance £25.

  9. Alright bud, would be looking for £60 to £70 a day depening on how long the day is. An as and when basis suits me as my main line of work is also like that. (I sub-contract as a diver). Some work came in this evening for next week so I'm now busy then, but if you can give me a bit of notice of when you need the help then I can usually make sure I'm free. If that suits then let me know and we can sort something out.

    Thanks. Iain.

  10. Does anyone need an extra Groundie or second climber next week? Got the cs30,31,38&39 and my own ppe and climbing kit, still new to the industry though so any experience is valuable to me. Have gained a bit since posting here last, been on a couple of dismantles and reductions and got a lot of climbing in on each one, trying to gain as much experience as possible really. I live in Plymouth and will travel throughout the area to work but also have a place to stay in Stroud, Gloucs, whenever I want. So can work in both areas. Up in Stroud for a gathering anyway this weekend anyway so having some work there next week would be quite handy...

  11. Hi all, I'm new to the Arb world and looking to gain some experience on site during my next block of time off from work. I have NPTC certs 30,31 and 38 and my own PPE. I work shifts of 1 month on, 2 weeks off at the moment. I would like to use my time off to gain as much experience as possible. My next block of time off runs from the 18th April to the 1st May and I am based in Plymouth so can travel for work throughout South Devon and South Cornwall. If someone needs an extra hand during this period then I'd be happy to help out.

    Thanks!

    Iain.
