  1. Phew.
  2. Spotted these on a random walk earlier, any ideas. Close (10ft) from mature beech, no fungi closer to the tree. Early Merip?? Any help appreciated.
  3. Thanks for the replies everyone. I agree some TOs are a little pedantic, but given all the cuts at the minute they probably want things airtight. I haven't dealt with this one before so will make the time to show him the tags and nails. I have explained that the nails will not be inserted fully to allow for future growth but he still seemed off. I'll take the stapler and see how effective it is. Thanks again.
  4. Does anyone know if the usage of aluminium tags on TPO trees could be misconstrued as wilful damage? The local TO is suggesting I find an alternative method for a survey. I informed him that these tags are an industry standard for large scale surveys where accuracy is paramount to the surveyor and contractor.
  5. Thanks David, Very much appreciated.
  6. Hello David, I've booked in a further inspection for the Autumn. On this particular area no mycelium present but will re-inspect then.
  7. Hi everyone, Maple, relatively dry site, no larch or rhodo near, only tree affected out of a line of 5, no other evidence of decay etc. Cant rotate image, sorry.y help appreciated.
  8. Essentially the architect to supply existing and proposed plans and I overlay existing trees, then provide a secondary constraints plan. Thanks for the replies.
  9. Hello everyone, Can 2D 5837 surveys be carried out in full using autocad LT? More clients asking for drawings recently and I need to get this or full CAD but there is a few hundred quid difference in price. Just need to plot trees/show RPA and fencing. Any help appreciated.
  10. No, you'll need to submit an app to the LA
  11. Hello, Just wondering whether it is more beneficial to use standard compost or John Innes No 3 for backfilling after radial trenching. We use No 3 for re-potting larger trees so I am assuming No 3 is more suitable. Any thoughts appreciated.
  12. Ignore this, found a thread on the forum
  13. Hi all, Anybody use mycorrhizal powder/gels when planting outside of an established area? I have a former meadow to plant up and it has been suggested to use a mycorrhizal powder or gel to kick things off. Done some research and it would have to be an ecto powder as its predominantly Quercus going in. Any experiences using this would be greatly appreciated.
  14. I normally tie in about a third of the height to the first branch, the important thing is to ensure enough sway, suitable distance of stem from stake to ensure no contact and make sure your stakes are deep enough in the soil. Seems to work fine and stakes are removed after two seasons.

    Air pots

Hello everyone, Looking to purchase some airpots and feathered trees (175/200) to grow on for a few years before planting out for clients. Mix of oak, beech and lime for starters. Just wondering what size pot to go for. Is a 40ltr is too large or can still get good growth with a 20ltr. Any user experiences welcome.
  16. Does anybody have experience of using terram weedguard? Planting season is on its way and I want to reduce the long term use of weed killers around trees. Any help appreciated.
  17. Thank you everyone for your replies and discussion.
  18. I know that if a protected tree is felled without consent because it is dead or dangerous (proven), a replacement tree must be planted and this automatically becomes subject to the original TPO. My question relates however to if permission is given by an authority to remove a protected tree, is the replanting solely subject to condition and therefore not automatically subject to protection? Thanks.
  19. Thanks everyone
  20. Thanks everyone. In response to Kevin I apologise if the wording seems a little corporate. The question should be is there a legal requirement to vary a TPO to include details of the replacement tree, bearing in mind that the replacement tree is automatically protected, just not listed on the schedule.
  21. Legal have been in touch and are requesting that for every tree I give permission for felling they be notified and I vary the order. I have raised the following points; • New tree automatically becomes protected hence no immediate need to vary the TPO • Informed them that the only way I can be sure of the removal is to visit each site, given the two year period for works • That the order should only be varied, or a new order created, if new previously unprotected trees are included • That woodland orders do not require varying for fells I understand their want for every order to be bang up to date but I have stressed this is totally impractical. I do vary and revoke orders when I can but cannot find any legal necessity to carry out their request.
  22. It's canker, common, but keep an eye on the tree if it has any decent targets nearby. I'd be more worried about the suspected Pseudo syringiae but again no cure, just evaluate and inspect other HC nearby.
  23. I'm in the process of completing a management project re outsourcing my local authorities tree contract. I am just wondering if anyone has any brief (but serious) points they could share about the advantages and disadvantages of securing/being selected for such a contract over a fixed term. Anonymity guaranteed.
  24. Offer mitigation via a meeting with the Councils enforcement officer and allow species selection from the TO. Always contact the TO before carrying out any work and beware of innocent looking old ladies.
