Yes, very interested, if there's a day you need another pair of hands I'd love to.
I've sent you a message.

There is one problem with Opinels, if you carry it in your pocket and you get soaking wet through of a day, the wood swells, jams the blade and you can't open it, if you need an emergency knife don't rely on an Opinel.
-
Thanks that answers question I just asked in previous post!
I notice your website link, do you do any courses on working horses in woodland?
I don't run bonafide courses as such, but if you ever want to come along for a day you would be welcome.

This is the bridge, afraid it's not a very useful pic but gives some idea what it's like.
From the looks of that your bearers are concrete so no problem with the weight, I would be inclined to get a couple inches of gravel on it, try and box it at the both ends to stop it from being carried off all the time.
-
As in original post, length approx 4m to 5m and width 2m. I'm afraid I don't know what you mean when you say bearers- can you put it in idiot speak for me please?
Sorry, did'nt focus on the original post. I personally would not use any sort of wire where horses are involved, imagine the worst case scenario where the wire/weldmesh gets hooked under the back of the shoe and the horse panics trying to get it off. The bearers are the, (usually), two long supports that take the bridge from bank to bank, they will be underneath the foot boards that you walk on. If they are steel RSJ's then I would use a large gravel or scalping's. If not up to the weight, then get some half round or "D" rails and cut them just short of the width of the bridge and screw them in every foot, just like the rungs on a ladder. Drainage is an issue, does the bridge hold water after rain or does it run off, if there is a slight fall make sure you run your rails slightly with it, if the bridge is level think about drilling some small holes or scoring as mentioned in a previous post.

How big is the bridge? Length, width, and what are the bearers made of, wood or steel ?

Had an order placed on Friday for half a cube. Delivered Saturday but they had changed their mind and didn't want it - firing me off in no uncertain terms. They had sorted a 'big load out with someone who was far cheaper'. I've no problem at all with someone being cheaper but there was no no need for the nasty edge to the way this was proudly announced in the street.
Happend to go past their house again later on Saturday afternoon and laughed out loud when I saw the pile of freshly cut unsplit lumps of leyllandii complete with plenty sawdust and general crap tipped on their ornamental stone chipping drive.
Phone rings this morning...
Them.... they have changed their mind and would like a big bag after all and could they have it delivered today.
Me.... Sorry, we had a busy day yesterday and now have only only enough stock left to look after existing customers.
Silence....
Them... Am I interested in buying a big load of logs?
Me... No thankyou.
If that's all you said, you're a better man than me I would have told them exactly what to do with their big load of logs.

bloody brilliant!

Saw Sick Steve says, "I'd like to think that with a quality, home produced, eco-friendly product people would be prepared to pay a bit extra, like with logs - but we all know how fickle the Great British Public can be.
You bin drinking ?

There was a tranny pick up in a layby on the A53 near Market Drayton today, trying to sell nets at £4.50. I went by him four times, I don't think he'd shifted much, I hope not as he was a mile from my back door

i am now more concerned why the horse has a small tail, your hand is on the winch and you are on the phone. did it get crunched. lol. not a bad attempt at the lunge, i will give you a point for the horses bum, but you really need to get into character, and surely you have a whip lying about to use as a prop:thumbup1:
:001_smile:I'll see what I can do,

What are you selling hard or soft wood, seems like the place has been flooded with soft wood at present, the next 3 months will tell but it is a bit quiet at the moment, need snow badly.
All hardwood Bri, they keep talking about snow, it's supposed to turn really cold Thursday according to the forecast, Easterly winds from Siberia, good times

Things have definately picked up here, phone pretty busy yesterday, and plenty to get out this week.

Or do they? Phone rings this morning,
Customer; I'd like a half load of logs please
Me; Certainly
C; Could you deliver tomorrow please, before noon
M; I think I could manage that
C; How much will it be
M; £70
C; And how much will we get
M; Half a load
C; But how much wood will we get, in weight.
I got cut off in mid stride there, this story has'nt finished,
Me; I don't sell by weight, I sell by volume
Cust; Oh whats that?
M; Basically, it's how much space it will take up, you will get approx. a cubic metre.
C; What's that?
M; Well, when it's stacked you should have, roughly, a stack one metre high, one metre wide and one metre deep.
C; Oh I see, (but I could tell from the tone of her voice that she did'nt see). So is that the same as half a load then?
M; Yes
C; I'll just go and have a word with my husband. After what seemed like five minutes she came back on, ok we'll have a cubic metre of logs then.
For the hell of it I almost asked if she was sure she did'nt want half a load but my patience and Mr Smooth voice was wearing thin

Hi All I am trying to find a place that runs a Stump grinding course ??LANTRA /NPTC training . I am based in Somerset but happy to travel out to get on a course .
Any info would be helpful
Thanks Littletree:biggrin:
Try North Walford college in Shropshire, they are currently subsidising courses, I will try to get a direct contact for you, as I know the office is not always open.
Slippery wooden bridge- suggestions?

NO! He is only horrible to me, and it's all because I had the misfortune to grow up in a town that is twinned with Baghdad, I broke free, but he has to keep dragging up the past
