Vegetation Manager |North West England | £21K - £23K (pro rata) One of the largest and most respected environmental consultancies is currently seeking a Vegetation Manager to join their growing team with responsibility for arboriculture surveys. The role will focus on managing the vegetation around overhead power lines and railways, and will provide a critical link between the field and the office based teams. Responsibilities will include: Carrying out negotiations with public and private landowners to agree vegetation management programmes to manage high risk trees Conducting tree surveys and risk assessments along overhead power lines, railways and on public and private land using hand held data capture and GPS Supervising contractors and auditing completed work Assessing tree work requirements and preparing contractor work specifications The successful candidate will have: Experience working with vegetation management, ideally within a utility company Experience and knowledge of preparing clear work specifications and risk assessments for contractors A sound knowledge of tree identification, tree physiology, pests and diseases ND / HND / Degree (or equivalent) in arboriculture, forestry or related land management subject Knowledge and experience of tree surveying techniques and risk/hazard assessment methodologies. Experience with GIS and hand held data capture devices would be an advantage. This role will involve negotiating directly with landowners to gain access to land; effective communication skills are required. You will be part of a wider team however you will be required to work unsupervised and independently. This is a 15 month contract position. A large amount of travel will be involved and a driver’s licence is required.
