  1. So I thought it was all sorted, However when I tried to start it again it just would not start. I took the carb off and took it apart .. it was full of fuel. put it back on and it started and ran great turned off tried to start... nothing. Fudge it I thought and ordered a replacement off ebay from china,18.50 sterling or there abouts. came with carb oil and fuel pipes and filters air filter and thing that the spark plug wire is attached to (magnetic) Swapped them over when it arrived yesterday and now it starts, runs stops starts runs stops starts etc. Fudge my old boots! how annoying was that! Just ordered some av mounts as one has disintegrated cost of 2.28 for x3.
  2. That's what I said........lol
  3. Well as awesome as an 18 year old very small 017 can be!!
  4. Don't know how to explain it but I will have a go......................... Contained within the Carb is a needle thing which has a lever thing on top of it this is held in place by a screw , there is also a spring involved. The lever thing was kind of bent up a bit high, apparently this let in too much fuel which puts the fire out. The man from Big Prawn town made it into the right shape and now its all kinds of awesome!
  5. The man from big prawn town has fixed it.... Get in! Total cost $18 Aus . Taking it to SES unit tomorrow to tune and sharpen chain. Need 1 av rubber and then good to go. Thank you all for you help and advice I learn something every time I look on here. Cheers Mike
  6. Found a guy in a small engine shop who is going to have a look on Monday. In a place called Ballina about 40 mins away. Home of the BIG PRAWN !! lol
  7. Piston had no real marks on it, Cant do the Rowena motors thing as have moved from UK to Aus. Any thing chainsaw related here commands huge prices!
  8. Stripped it down , took fuel tank out refitted valve took carb apart made a gasket out of thin cardboard cleaned it , blew it with air line. eventually got muffler off ....cleaned it put fuel in pulled the cord .. vroom vroom vroom..........then nothing again. lots of swearing.... will have to try and source a carb kit. Are the ebay ones any good?
  9. Tried new spark plug Taped wire (was casing damaged). Cant get muffler off as one of the nuts has rounded off! There may have been what looks like a very small one way (green Rubber) valve left over when I put it back together!!! cant think where it may have come from though. I did take the fuel filter off and blow it out . No new carb kit Thats next I think.
  10. Thanks for quick reply. The only way I have of testing compression is the drop test thing . Its certainly slower than with the pug out! Its annoying as it did pop and run for a couple of secs. New carb? Fuel lines? Cant get the exhaust off as one of the nuts has rounded off! any more ideas??
  11. My neighbor gave me a 1998 017 this morning. I dumped the fuel which was in it and put in fresh fuel. Pulled the cord and it popped a couple of times. then nothing, I have taken it apart cleaned the carb. Adjusted the carb to 1 turn out. Still nothing. There is a good spark and fuel is getting through. When I took it apart there was damage to the grey wire casing, but the wire seemed to be intact. All connections clean. Crank it and crank it nothing! Any advice would be good . A service manual would be good. Thanks Mike

    Shindaiwa 352s

Thanks .... you tube ... should have thought! I am still having trouble getting it right though. the carb settings I found are L=2 5/8 out H= 2 3/4 out Also where should the idle screw be for initial carb settings? Mike
  13. Shindaiwa 352s I got hold of the above for $20 aus (about 10 sterling) the chap said it was lacking compression and he thought the piston may have been knackered. I took it to bits and cleaned it, the carb was gunky inside so cleaned with carb cleaner. I took the cylinder off to look at the piston which was smooth and clean, as was the inside of the cylinder. once I'd put it all back together (with no spare bits!) it did start. The chain would not run freely , it was really stiff and I have seen more meat on a skeleton! Also the sprocket at the end of the bar wouldn't move freely , it was really stiff. So I removed them. I have a spare B&C which I fitted. When cleaning the carb I took the L & H needles out and reset them from info gained here http://www.golftechs.us/Manuals/shin...aw_current.pdf http://www.garage24.se/Catalogs/Shin...rjustering.pdf As I said it starts and runs but it is quite smokey especially when revving. Please could someone advise on what to do to "tune" it I only have a screwdriver and ears! Thanks Mike

  15. Just wanted to say thanks to spud and adw, I bought a can of carb cleaner and took the carb apart again and gave it a good "squirting" once back together it now runs and idles like a good un. I will now work on the right hand side of the saw cleaning and degunking it , but I envisage no problems. its a good sense of achievement getting something running again. Mike
  16. The chain would have to be sharp first !!!
  17. So I took the saw to bits and cleaned it( wiped with an oily rag) took the carb off and turned the fuel pipes around. It now runs but only when the choke is out!! Starts great but when i put the choke in it dies. I think my next move will be to try a carb kit or it may well end up being an anchor for the canoe when we go fishing!! Any further thoughts welcome???
  18. Driving me nuts now!! took carb apart (should have taken pics!) There was a very small bullet shaped thing under a "see saw" with a spring on the opposite side . The cone shaped bit was dirty so ..cleaned it. the fuel pipes are different sizes so surely I cant mix them up! put the saw back together and it started first pull......then died. it is a friends and he isn't too bothered if it gets running but I need to make the f'in thing run! its a matter of principle!
  19. As the bulb fills with fuel, it will become more difficult to depress! Yes.... having reread my post I did appear to be a bit of a dipstick! What I meant was it becomes impossible to depress , as though there is nowhere for the fuel to go , if that makes sense. Also the fuel pipes into the carb are different sizes , so can't get mixed up.
  20. THanks for that I will have a look tomorrow ( am in Oz) I did take it apart today and give it a clean as it was full of Sh**e around the carb . There are two fuel pipes on the right hand side of the carb as you look at it. the lowest one which is slightly lower and forward of the other is fed by the primer bulb. the top one, I presume is fed from the fuel tank, i was unable to blow through ? blockage?, as i said previously the actual pipe from the tank is clear. Also when i push the primer after a few pumps it gets very hard to depress, should this be the case? BTW the bar and chain have been removed .
  21. After setting the idle screws as per my previous request for help. The saw , a homelite will start but fails to run. When you prime it and start it it runs for what seems like the amount of fuel it has been primed with and then cuts out. Squeezing the trigger does nothing. I have pulled the fuel pipes from the carb and ,using a syringe sucked fuel through from the tank, so I don't think its a blocked fuel pipe. I know the saw is worth nothing but I would like to get it running if I can for a sense of personal achievement. Any thought or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Cheers
  22. Thank you for your help, i will try later when I go to see him. I now realise this should have been posted in the maintenance section.
  23. I wonder if anyone could help me ? A "friend" has got hold of a Homelite d3850b chainsaw and apart from it being what it is , it has issues running. It starts but does not run as he puts it . I have tried an internet search for a service manual which has proved fruitless but wondered if anyone here might know the carb settings for this model? Please pm me if you are embarrassed about posting publicly:blushing: Many thanks Mike

    Hi all

Try looking outside Oxford in the towns for cheaper rentals, but Oxfordshire on the whole is so expensive! Bicester should be a bit cheaper or try out towards Swindon, everywhere seems to think that because Oxfordshire is Oxfordshire they have a license to print money!! Give me a shout if you find an area and I will give MY opinion of it! Was in the Ambulance service for 23 years so have been all over the county. Cheers Mike
