would have to be something that can react well to the elements, so pine that we can treat is fine or any rough cut timber.
We aren't looking for exactness in this roundhouse but at the moment anything we can get our hands on would be good.
-
In two weeks time I will be down in devon hopefully starting to build a Roundhouse and will be looking for anyone with supplies of wood near the Okehampton area.
If anyone down that area can help me and my mates out for good local supplies it would be much appreciated.

Sweet work mate, you taking it to the bulldog bash?
-
you mean with something like this.
-
My tutor reccomended we stuff the rope in an old pillow case and use a bio detergent in the washing machine. Apparently works a treat and the pillow case saves the washing machine from being destroyed.

I'm no where near your boots in this situation, but i also everything has been said.
Another point to make is if at this young age would it be better than moving when he is slightly older, as he is still learning loads in this stage of life it may be benefitial to move when he is this young so he can grow to get used to seeing you not as often as he can, and therefore his understanding of you living so far away will be a part of everyday life for him.
As it was mentioned before show him as much love as you intend and make sure he's comfortable with the situation.
I wish you all the best of luck in this as it is a very hard task to approach.

This has to be one of the best ones I've found.

Look on the bay of e, there are some on there.

Thanks again, looks like chutneys all round, and eventually some smoked meat, fish and veg.
-
definatly camp, or at least effeminite. Not many survive the ripping of having a "Man Bag"
-
Thank you very much kind sir, we do have a range of chutneys so just let me know and I can send you the list.
-
it's allways they way in these cases. With the right hand not speaking to the left.
Thanks for the offer though it's nice to know, but if you do happen to come across any of the above just let me know and we can supply you with cash or chutneys, we make a mean Apple, Mint and Chillie relish which is blinding on bbq meats or roasted veg if you are that way inclined.

Muppets, you would have also thought the TO would have noticed the 300yr old oak in moreton's recreational park with a 2m stress crack along one of the main branches hanging over a well used path.
-
I was supposed to taking down a small Oak just outside Moreton in Marsh on thursday, but the client has changed the work spec, deadwooding Corsicans now only! Sorry.
Thats it just fill me with some hope just to spoil it with a simple sorry. haha
where abouts? I could try and change their mind with some form of torture.
-
Indeed, us lot at Moreton Morrel would be up for this. And considering that area used to be my home territory it would be interesting to see who is doing arb there.
-
I just read that on a smoking web site, they also said try using Cherry wood.
So again, if anyone has any alder, hickory, apple, cherry or oak chips I can give you some pretty nice tasting chutneys
-
I'm on the search for anyone who has oak chips they want to get rid of as i plan to start smoking my own food.
I'm in Moreton in Marsh and can travel to collect.
-
Or he has a very large 20p coin

I forgot all about this guy, untill today when I was reminded about him on my search for Ancient axes.
met him on several occasions and is a quallity craftsman and all round nice bloke, he has loads of hand made knives and axes available. Even a miniature axe for fun.
-
Apparently stone age man used to ring bark the biggest tree around so it would die then use the available light to farm in.
It's thought that this removed the largest of trees therefore weakening the species, so if they hadnt done it we would probably have larger specimens today.
Not on topic but thought it may be of some interest
Now that is interesting.
I have found a guy who can make me a Socket axe which was a preferred axe at the time. What exact job it was used for i'm unsure but there is allways trial and error.

I reckon they used fire, quite a bit to fell
Really? christ on a cracker! I never would have thought of that.

Hi Tribaltree,
Try treesource.co.uk - they have a fantastic range of tree related books such as these which may be helpful:
http://www.treesource.co.uk/acatalog/Woodland_Ecology___Conservation.html
http://www.treesource.co.uk/acatalog/Woodland_History___Archaeology.html
Other than that you'll just have to see what you can find on Google etc.
Thanks for the info but I like to know what the book contains before buying it, just so I know I have the info right.
-
I am searching for info about felling techniques used by the celts, vikings, saxons, and romans.
As an avid fan of the past and now studying arb I would like to know how they did it.
Does anyone know of any websites, books or anything so I can do a bit of personal research.
-
it was a case of bad two stroke mix, I opened up the fuel and saw a small amount of bog standard petrol.
it has been played with, but I'm gooing to see if I can get it going ok.

Thanks mate I will look into that!
It's not going to be as exact as the one on that bbc site, mainly because we did that before and it took far to long as we only had the odd weekend to get things done. We have some different plans that should hopefully get it up and ready in the space of two weekends.
