Hi all, I'm a new boy on the forum, but thought I would share my log storage habits for those that might be interested.
I use a cubic metre of loosely stacked logs every couple of weeks in winter, but have plenty of storage space for drying. What I wanted to do was to find a way of storing that gave a good balance between surface area exposed to wind and sun, use of space and a convenient way of handling.
I came up with the following. Take a standard sheet of concrete reinforcing mesh, cut it down the middle, take one half and bend it so that it forms the back, sides and open front of a box and sits on and just inside the edge of a standard 1200x1000 pallett. Drill holes in pallett to align with tines of the mesh, hammer home.
This holds 1 cu m of logs, is lightweight, cheap at around £10.00 per bin and allows a loosely stacked pile of logs to dry out double quick.
It's ideal for me, logs are split and thrown directly into bin, when seasoned and needed, whole bin is moved to house, each log only moved by hand 3 times, into bin, into log basket, into fire.
Perhaps those of you that deliver logs might drop off full bins to customers and collect empties, saves a lot of throwing individual logs around.
