  1. Unless they had insulated rods to pull him free attempts to rescue him would likely result in them getting electrocuted as well, even thats not best practice depending on voltage the best thing you can do in this situation is to phone the dno via emergency no to isolate the supply which is why its so important to have network information when in close proximity to overhead lines so the supply can be quickly shutdown

  2. Depends on how heavy duty it has to be in relation to material you are moving timber and aggregate wise a fordson major, david brown selectamatic, Massey Ferguson 165 or nufffield are all good choices good range of parts available and all still capable of a good days work, id personally choose a fordson major, easy to work on can drop a ford cargo engine straight in for extra power if needed can get a 3 tonne winch on the back and mower etc so universal id expect to pay anything from 800-1000 for a half decent one a bit more for a restored painted up one same for the other tractors above although massesys can be dearer and multi power ones can be troublesome if you want something a bit bigger and 4wd zetor are a good choice cheaper than more well known brands although pretty basic they are well built can get one for anywhere between 1000-2000

  3. I suppose it is difficult to judge what is excessive as every one has a different view on too much or too little as the rail operator wants a good clearance and the public want a safe but nice looking environment and perhaps I was a bit hasty to judge the situation without knowing full story, perhaps better communication between network rail and public is needed in the way of signs put up in areas where public areas border the railway explaining the work to help reassure people they are not destroying wildlife or trees

  4. Im sure these concerned residents would be first to complain that their train was late due to leaves on line or fallen branches and as usual the rspb jumps on the bandwagon but their clearfelling pine plantations and woodland to create heathland destroying habitat and commercial timber..apparently thats fine, if we all did tree work out of nesting season tree surgeons would be camped out under trees across the land waiting to start work, it is important to look after wildlife but trees around the railway is a health and safety issue unfortunately we created railways so tree and vegetation has to be managed rant over lol

  5. I doubt she would appreciate it!!! I blame it on touch screen phone just as well she dosent look on here otherwise I would be in the dog house, however just in case she is I meant my lovely wonderful wife..!!

  6. UThanks for the advice guys. Yeah I meant 3.5 gross weight, will be pulling a fergie tractor and topper/logsplitter most of the time, but will need sides for logs and carrying round bales of hay for wides horses!! So will take advice and price in what I need and see what figures I come up with, the only benefit of this one is I know exactly what it has done as its only had one owner being used for moving coils of land drain pipes, hadnt thought about buying new but may look in to it, wont be used everyday so not sure if I can justify a brand new one would be nice though!!

  7. has any one else had issues with husky 357xp starting to shake themseves to bits after a while, i find im constantly tightening up the screws holding exhaust and main handle up, cutting gear sharp and depths ok and av mounts changed regular any ideas what the cause may be? also it has started the annoying habit of stalling as soon as i put it down then have to choke to re start again any ideas have tinkered about flushed fuel system out etc but no luck up till now has been an awesome saw any advice appreciated

  8. just after a bit of advice ladies and gents :001_smile: thinking of selling my ifor williams twin axle trailer as its too small to fit my tractor and topper on, i need to sell this to fund buying a bigger trailer. a mates dad has an indespension twin axle for sale will take 3 and a half ton good tyres floor brakes etc but has no sides and no ramps and he is asking £1000. do you think this is a realisitic price without sides and ramps as its just essentially a flat bed at the moment and i would have to buy ramps and sides for it to be any use. Any advice would be appreciated

    cheers

not sure iof right place to post this but here goes

off on holiday to devon/north cornwall border near Bude on saturday, just wondered if anyone local may be able to tell me if there are any good arboretums or cool tree places to visit. i have looked up in internet but can only find obvious ones like Exmoor and Dartmoor national park. May get in trouble for taking work with me as supposed to be on honeymoon :001_tongue:!! but seems a shame not to take a look at some places while there!!

    cheers fellas

  12. hi,

after looking around on the internet for going prices on that model land rover i have decided to drop the price to £1,500. i havnt done it for any other reason than that i want a quick sale to free up space on the driveway and to be honest i could do without the monthly insurance payments going out of the old bank account!!

if any one is interested then pm me and i will contact you with any information

    cheers harry

  13. i am begrudgingly putting up my Freelander van for sale as i am getting a company vehicle so have no need for it anymore:sneaky2:. its a 2002 model with the TD4 diesel engine, 4 all terrain tyres bought late last year so plenty of tread left, taxed for six months from jan 2011, MOT expires Aug 2011, done 158,226 miles. i havnt had a chance to take pics as yet but can upload some if anyone is interested and it will be up for sale elsewhere.

it has been really reliable in my ownership and has done everything i have asked of it, tows really well and capable off road, as said before only reason for sale is getting a company vehicle so no room/ real need for it anymore. Looking for around £2,000 for it ono, im in the ipswich area suffolk pm me if anyones interested and i will awnser any questions or to arrange a viewing

    cheers

  14. we do line clearance and private work so i can definately see both points, when doing line work we are sub contractors to the main contractor and the margins are unbelieveably tight we get paid per span so every minute spent on a job does count. we also have to work to what the permission is on a consent form so we only do what has been requested clearance wise by the customer. utility work is not always the prettiest work within the industry but then you see some equally poor work done by some private firms in gardens who are just doing the job that the client requested. however it does make me mad when i see some line clearance work left by other gangs with stubs and tears all over the place :sneaky2: and it does the image of the utility arb industry no good either which is why a lot of the private guys dont have as much respect for the utility arb work. its a shame there is such a divide between both sides of the industry as both sides have some awesome tree surgeons

  15. i also worked for Mick for several years, throughout my time with him at eastwoods he helped and encouraged me to progress as a climber and a tree surgeon with training and by giving me the opportunity to just get out there and do the job, i appreciated everything he did for me, RIP Mick
