Has anyone seen the 2016 film "Trespass against us"? Starring Michael Fassbender?
In the intro (and trailer) he's driving a subaru estate. The favourite get away car of the family the film is based on who used to be based around these parts.

I've just bought one, so will find out how good it is. Its got a 3m tipper on it and I'm in the process of adding tool storage. But its going to be the spare back up truck for carrying excess chip occassionally and logs and debris etc, also for stump grinding and delivering machinery to sites etc so not a full time arb-truck as such.

Hi all.
I have one or maybe two positions available from February next year. Either a fully qualified climber, ideally with some experience, or somebody who is still gaining experience as a groundie/trainee climber. The exact job description and Salary would vary to suit the right person. A minimum of CS30/31 would be required and driving license would be good for anyone over 25.
Full time position. approx £24-£34K per year depending on age and experience. The more you can do the better.
Freelancers always welcome too!
We do quality work for the best clients, so virtually no conifer bashing, mostly in the Cotswolds area.

Climber, trainee climber or groundie work available. Driving licence, including towing, is more useful than climbing tickets.

Now that's a good post!!If you want to climb on two ropes by all means do so but climbing on two ropes is not mandatory. You DO NOT need to do it.
When you approach a job, if you assess the risk that climbing on two ropes could lead to an increased risk of an accident then you dont do it. This does not mean you fore-go the use of two ropes indefinitely. It just means you understand when it would be beneficial to use two ropes.
An increased risk of climbing on two ropes is the unanswered problem of self rescue which the AA will not address because they know it's a huge problem if your two climbing lines become tangled beneath you on a self rescue descent. They are pushing a technique that could potentially see a climber bleed out amidst tangled lines.
The proposed implemetation of two ropes by the HSE (and heavily pushed by the AA) was initiated as a kneejerk reaction to climbers falling off the end of their climbing lines and cutting themselves out of the tree, in these instances the victims were deviating from industry best practice (no stopper knots in end of lines and not being tied in twice when using the saw).
If moving through the crown of a tree on a single rope was such a dangerous practice there would be 1000s of tree climbers dropping out of trees on a weekly basis worldwide.
The proposed two rope implementation fiasco and it's accompanying hysteria will go down as a low point for the AA and the arboricultural industry in general. It showed the HSE have minimal understanding of our industry and that the AA was not willing to robustly defend our position. What made matters worse was that the AA attempted to delegitimise our safe work practices overnight. They deferred to the HSE with little resistance, behaving obsequiously to those in power.
Do not let these people dictate how you manage your safety in the tree, it's your life on the line, not theirs. They sit in their warm offices reading accident stats thinking I need to justify my job and throw some regulations at this industry I know nothing about so I can be seen to be doing something.
How could they possibly have the answers?
The Arb industry is a grassroots movement, everything we've done related to climbing was innovated and developed from within from the ground up, borrowing some aspects from similar rope disciplines. It's not a top down bureaucracy. People not actively engaged in this work on a daily basis DO NOT get to dictate how we carry out our work. They can try, but now, with almost zero credibility....who in their right mind would listen to them.
If twin rope ever becomes the norm in treework it'll be because it was innovated and developed from within to make the job easier or safer on our terms. Only we as climbers can fully appreciate the depth of infinite climbing situations and evolving work scenarios that require our mind to be as free as possible to be able to create imaginative solutions to the task at hand.

Two kit bags of climbing kit gone. Treemotion plus lots of fancy kit inc srt kit, zig zag and chicane etc etc. All metal work engraved "RW" plus a 2 digit number. The only rope was a newish adrenaline 55m lots of karabiners, pulleys, rope guides etc.

Both ldvs have a roof box. So the transit will have when converted. Full chapter 8 signage stowed out of the way but there when you need it. Plus a few bits. No one has ever tried to break into either of them.Love the roof box Rupe!- 4

No, ldvs (well convoys) stopped at 2005/6 so not worth trying to find one. Going transit! Will swop the tipper etc over as before.

Its a sad day but the old LDV is no more! Almost exactly 10 years out of her and she gives up back at the yard in her usual parking space!
The truth is she packed up 2 months ago and we've been half trying to fix it and half looking for a new truck and in the end the decision was obvious, get a new truck and stop patching up the old. Fuel injector pump has gone and the next mot will be expensive anyway, plus the last 2 MOTs were expensive, time to say goodbye and build a new one, watch this space!

First proper trial yesterday. Worked the top of the tree Ddrt and then attached my line to a stem for srt. Worked the tree abit thenback up to retrieve the end for Ddrt. Worked really well.
The chicane ascends well. The zig zag needs to be attached (via its 2nd hole) to a chest harness, I use a Chester, but then that attachment doesn't need to be removed like a neck tether would. So you can fairly seamlessly go up and down.
I was on spikes so I just walked back up the tree when ready. Tip roping lombardies so lots of up down up down!- 2

Tries the chicane with a hitch, today. Didnt really mean to, but was exiting the tree for tea break and so I converted my Ddrt Hitch set up to SRT to descend and happened to have the chicane with me ( I was using zig zag on another tree earlier).
It works really well but the hitch gets too close to the chicane really. I use a short knut hitch and it worked just about. A VT (they are usually longer) would hit the chicane and that would be risky!

The next thing to try would be the chicane with a hitch and HC. If petzl (or anybody) made a pulley with holes that only accept the new OK karabiner then that would make a rigid system on a midline attachable system.

Never tried one, but yes, probably a better option.
Akimbo maybe if it ever gets released.
