  1. I have a Dunsley Yorkshire multi-fuel with backboiler. I'm pleased with the heat output - maximum 17kw - and it has a thermostat which opens and closes the air supply to regulate it.

It works well, no complaints on heat from 7 radiators and a 170 litre water tank in a reasonable sized semi.

One downside, when the top air vents are closed and it is running on thermostat control the glass smokes up overnight, and of course you can't clean it in the morning because the stove is still burning. If you chuck some wood in and open it right up some, but not all, of the glass burns clear.

  2. Rogers a very experience arborist whose tackled some amazing trees in the past

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking anyone, I respect a man who recognises the need for a specialist and calls him in. That's professional . A lesser man might have attempted it and we'd have been watching a video of a shed being demolished.

I'll add that my opinion carries little weight, I only fell trees in woodlands, so if one tree takes down another one I've saved some petrol .

  3. You have to be very very careful not to "over cook" it or you end up with non burnable diamonds.

I hate it when that happens, nothing winds me up more than having to empty diamonds out of the ash pan.

  4. I have had tennis elbow, both sides. It was started by handling a lot of split lengths, lifting them palm down to stack. I found I couldn't lift a tin of beans palm down but could lift as normal palm up. I started to lift things differently and the problem has almost gone now.

  5. It looks as if the piston has overheated by the exhaust port, causing the alloy to smear over the piston ring groove and lock the ring in the slot. The blow past the locked ring just makes things worse. Pistons lose a lot of heat into the barrel, less barrel ( because of the port ) means less heat transferred. Lean mixture is a common cause, caused by a leak in the intake side, holed filter, failed crank seals, too much oil in the mixture or a mismatched exhaust.

  6. I could smell the testosterone in those pics

Anyway, I was taught never to point a gun at anything unless you're gonna shoot it, so whats with the camera down down the barrel shots?

And you all know how to be safe with guns you say?:001_rolleyes:

That wasn't testosterone, it was burnt rabbit

  7. How about this.

If your man is looking for a good deal on removing the poplar make it part of a larger deal that includes the ash and oak over the next few years. Explain that there is a lot of work and little return on the poplar, but that you are prepared to swallow it as part of a larger job.

  8. Over the break if anyone fancies it I'll do a shooting meet at my yard. I'm gonna get Dave D out for the day to have a plink and if there's enough people maybe we'll have a little comp for fun.

Bring along your air rifles, rimfire rifles and shotguns and we'll have a get together with a bonfire and cook up a bit of grub. I'll get a couple of boxes of clays and bring and a trap for the shotgunner's.

Is the meet on ? If so, does anyone have a postcode ?

  9. i am by no means as experianced with firearms as alot of you are but i am a keen airgun hunter and intend to get my fac one day. my kids are young and id like to think they will share my enthusiasm for shooting. it may sound silly to the layman but im sure most of you will agree with my teaching of gun safety using their toy guns. i dont want to stop them shooting each other with foam bullets but i try to ballance their fun with little basic safe practices such as; never look down the muzzle and never point at anyones face, all rules apply wether loaded or not. i like them to know the difference between there toys and the real thing though and so when my rifle is out they adhere to strict rules. i am happy for them to use my rifle with me so long as they follow the rules otherwise they have to stay in doors.

Dave, if you fancy teaching the kids some fieldcraft or even a camping trip and campfire you're welcome to use the woods.

  10. 12b shotgun does the job around the pheasant feeders, they can be surprisingly stupid when they've got their nose on the ground. I shot one this afternoon that didn't smell or see me until it was 20yds away. I can't see much point in chasing one across half the parish with a pack of dogs if you really want to kill it, pest control is just an excuse for a high-adrenalin ride.
