  1. Thanks for the suggestions, a few ideas I'd not thought of there. How well do adwords work? I was looking at that the other day but wondered if it was possible for an idiot to keep clicking on it and rack you up a massive bill?! Or does it register repeat clicks from the same ip address as one click?

Bob - both! Though I've found with commercial it tends to be who you know more than anything but if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them.

I'd like to put together a promotional pack or prospectus for commercial clients, can anyone recommend someone or a company or a printers that does such things?

  2. Hi guys, what have you all found to be the best methods of promoting your business? I'm trying to find the most cost effective way of reaching the most potential customers. Seems it's easy to get duped into signing up for things that promise the earth only to find they take your money but don't deliver!

    Thanks,

    Thea.

  3. I need to make a work sledge for my pony for moving tools and equipment and looking for a bit of inspiration... So if you have made one please share pics! What materials did you use, how big, what is good about it, if you were to make it again would you change anything? etc.

    Ta very much!

  4. Order arived today, excellent service, thank you very much!

Just wondering though I still have some 2-stroke and petrol mixed ready but its now 11 months old. Will it be ok to use in my new saw or could it have gone off? I keep getting conflicting opinions on whether fuel can go off or not :confused1:

  5. £50?!! Wow, thats a lot. I did get the choice of a complete single piece sole that would have to be ordered in and would take about 2 weeks for £30 or separate front, middle and heel pieces cut to the right shape and then glued on to look like one piece for £15 and only took a couple of days. I went for the quick cheap option so I'll just have to see how long it lasts. If I get 6 months out of it i'll be happy, if not then I'll go for the more expensive one next time.

  6. Haix Trekker Mountains for me. Just had a new sole put on (£15 - nothing compared to the cost of a whole new pair of boots!!) as after over a years continuous use the sole was nearly bald and about ready to peal off but the uppers are still almost like new apart from surface scuffs. Were a bit stiff when new but now are like a favourite pair of slippers while still being supportive. Previous pair were Fellsman Experts but they were worn out and falling to bits after only 7 months.

  7. Only just seen this, I've been away. Sorry to hear about it Dave, really unfortunate thing to happen. Glad to hear though that some of it is healing, long may that continue! Sincerely hope you have a full recovery. Glad to hear you are in good spirits too as that can really help the healing. Wishing you all the best :thumbup1:

  8. Heya sorry for not getting back to this sooner, have been in South Africa for a month! Tried to get a vertical slice but without much success I'm afraid as its a bit awkward to get to, the saw just kinda chewed it up and the base of it seems to burried in the ground. It just really wasn't having any of it but the result is below anyway. Also on the next tree along the road, which is also looking a bit sparse in the crown, a different fungi has reared its little heads:

  9. Thanks for the replies guys! This street has already lost quite a few of its Whitebeams, I presume to the same problem. A few of them have been looking a bit thin in the crown for a few years now but this is the first time I've noticed the fruiting bodies. Sadly they don't seem to be replacing the trees when they do come out unless you ask them too! The one outside my parents house was already gone when they moved in 10yrs ago so they rang up the council and got a lovely Rowan planted which is doing very well. :thumbup1: Most people either don't realise they can get a new tree or don't want one  I think the council may be getting a phone call about this one! Here is the cut through section, its very hard inside:

  10. You northern lot really have turned into a bunch of woofters since I moved south :sneaky2: well maybe if you actually get organised I might venture up and grace you with my presence, its been too long since I last saw some of you. I'm sure even I can manage to stand around in the woods drinking tea :001_tt2:

  11. Really nice story Thea.

I've got an incredible memory that on the face of it sounds fantastical, though is actualy true, and is one of my most enduring natural encounters.

Every couple of years or so, my family get together and rent one of the hunting lodges at Balmoral,

miles away from the castle up by Loch Muick.

First year, I had two great little forest adventures. One was stripping down & really getting back to nature for a very isolated 15 mins, which is another story, and the second was stalking an absolutely amazingly majestic Red (Monarch of the Glen type) Stag, through those very same pines.

You've breifly met me, and am sure you can tell I'm a bit of an urban dweller.

But little old non hunting me, managed to keep down wind of the beast through undultating ground & hiding between the trees.

After what seemed like an age (but was probably 5 minutes) eventually crept up to within about 12 yards of it, whilst it was refreshing itself from a spring down in a rockstrewn hollow. Managed a good couple of minutes just breathing in that adrenalin fuelled-awesome meeting, before he was 'bothered' about my presence, and just trotted off.

Suffice to say, i didnae have me camera with me that day.

That encounter will reside with me for all my urban living days. :001_cool:

a few shots from up on the estate, over the last ten years or so.

    .

    Fantastic story :thumbup1:

    but

stripping down & really getting back to nature for a very isolated 15 mins
    :scared::lol:
  12. I was once in my wood Thea, where the chip pile is .....

I was sat on the ground below the chip pile looking out with a combat jacket on and a green wooly hat when I heard a twig snap behind me.. I thought it was someone who had wandered down and hadn't seen me.

I thought if I turn round now I'm going to frighten them to death as it was getting dusk.

So I ever so slowly turned round to see a big stag, stood not 8ft behind me sniffing the air, I sat and watched him for a bit then I made a click with my tongue and he just sauntered off at his own pace.

When moments like that happen in nature it's awesome

    Wow good moment! :thumbup1:
