Fast ascent? Just DO IT!
exactly: and if you can do it without stopping for a breather (or a fag) half way up so much the better : )
-
Would be a great idea - if I knew myself : )
I'll ask Terry for you - he's fast.
Have you had a go before ?
how about discussing technique for fast ascent?New thread?

Hi Ian,
send me a private message with your contact details and I'll send you details of the competitions etc.
There is one at the end of May in North Wales and it's planned to have a special category for working spikes to encourage new people to come and try it - should be perfect for you.
Pete
I'd be well up for that:icon14: -
Not a clue where I get my energy from I'm afraid.
Are you going to the show again this year ?
if so come and say hello, or give it a go.
Hi Pete,We saw you climb in Yorkshire last July were do you get your energy from? are you up for a challenge?

You can't get toe spikes anywhere I'm afraid
we all make our own to suit or not - although one or two climbers have made sets for others in return for a carrier bag stuffed full of cash.
There are several events where the public can try it so don't worry if you've done any climbing before you're already well ahead of most of them.
I didn't make the last APF which is why they all looked fast : )
I have often thought where can you get the toe spikes from, i would like to give it a go but want to get some practice in before i gave it a belt in public.....I saw at APF some of those guys can move bloody fast.

Cheers High Scale, it's great to be here.
Hello Pete, nice to see another west country lad on the forum. -
Yes it is and yes he was.
We're working on a similar idea where we attach the safety rope to the back of a truck and floor it.
We just need someone willing to be attached to the other end and the new record is theirs. : )
Is that Mark Bryden?I think i saw a vid somewhere of him being pulled to the bell by the Australian national rowing team or some similar "belaying" team!

good question Mr. Ed I honestly don't know if there is even an official record for it - if not it's up for grabs - come and have a go and get it for yourself.
Current record is below 10 seconds, but thats on toe spikes. Totally different style, you can run up the pole. Not sure what the record is on conventional spikes. -
The official world record is 9.6 seconds - which is pretty quick, but we don't mention it as it's held by an Aussie.
If you can climb a tree you'd get to the top - maybe not a record time, but you could work on it.
What is the world record ed, is it around 12 secs?Just curious as I dont suppose theres any point in me having a go against the clock! Unless someone could hold a few stone of mine while i tried:heeeelllllooooo:

Unfortunately there is no Newark show this year -
there are plenty of other events though - you're welcome to come and try again - wee can show you the techniques but don't bring the Royal Marine sergeant : )
had a go at the newark show a few years ago, first time i had worn spikes, nightmare, took me about 5 mins, royal marine sergeant tried it and gave up..... very hard work if you are new to the techniques. -
Hi Steve,
I'll probably be long retired for climbing then - but my Dad will still be at it - I'll tell him to look out for you : )
or if you fancy giving it a go before then let me know.
Pete
ive always fancied a go at that......i threatened to enter a regular climbing comp for 8 years and finally did just last year....so perhaps 8 years from now! -
No, unfortunately I couldn't make the Scottish show last year. I did hear there was a guy who gave it a go and was rather quick - but we haven't seen him again since ?
I did see Terry Bennett do a climb in 8.6 seconds at Newbury - again unofficial world record
- so looks like it could be a great season !
- Pete
Pete, were you at the scottish show last year when one of our Irish friends beat (unverified) the world record on his 2nd attempt? -
Cheers MasterBlaster
I'll send you a private message
Pete

Hi Greg,
If you're up for it we'll soon get you climbing don't worry.
Send me a private message with your contact details and I'll send you all the info etc.
Pete
I haven't started climbing yet but would love to give it a go. -
The new Pole climbing season is about to start and we're looking for people who are looking for something different, are up for a challenge and a bit of fun.
We welcome all new comers and are even looking at introducing a new class just for working/side spikes so you can all come and try it and still compete on equal terms.
Full details can be found on the website at
http://www.poleclimbing.org.uk
or you can contact me directly.
Looking forward to welcoming you to your first event soon !
