  1. Morning,

If a tree is in a CA and you fell it without giving notice under s211, then you have a duty to replace it. If you give notice and the LPA say no, ie TPO the tree and you fell it, you would need to replace it (and explain yourself to the beak). If you give notice and the LPA say yes, then the tree is like any other non-protected tree and you don't need to replace it.

    Cheers

  2. Hello all,

Does anyone use mapmaker for tree surveys? If so, do you use it in conjunction with woodplan or similar package, or just by itself?

How do you import OS tiles to it? Is it simple to annotate the maps?

    Many thanks for your time.

    Phil

  3. What has 'experience of working in the same road' got to do with anything? Give the client a ball park figure for a reduction on that tree. Do you quote more for a 30% than a 25%? If the TO refuses a reduction then it's likely your client won't settle for much else isn't it? The spec is to make it smaller.

Don't charge your client for making the app. You will simply be giving credence to those who advertise that they don't charge for apps, and it only takes 5 minutes to fill in an online form.

    All the best

  4. By the way- This September 1 to 10th my wife and I are taking holiday to visit London and if possible would consider visiting with local arborists further about RTC. Of course finding a great tree to climb using borrowed gear would be a real plus! Dan

    Dan,

Sounds like a plan to me. If I'm up and running in Sept I'll find a big tree to clamber around. I'm based just outside Bristol on the West Coast. As you're business is up and running I might tap you for a bit of advice from time to time if that's OK with you.

    All the best

  5. Hello everyone,

Many thanks for the responses. All very positive. I'm waiting for a few insurance companies to get back to me with a public liability quote. I was thinking a 4:1 ratio student to instructor.

Does anyone know if there are any training certificates I might need (apart from an updated CS38) in order to run this. Pward, you did this at Cannington. Did they ask for anything other than CS38? Did you do this with Mike Cullen?

    All the best

  6. Hello all,

Is RTC as a business a valid venture? Does anyone have experience of this? It would be a side line in my current business but obviously I would need to fork out on the insurance and the 12 extra sets of climbing gear.

    Cheers

  7. Ciaran,

CAVAT is useful for publicly owned trees. It's reasonably objective and can help in mgt decisions and for asking for compensation if damged or a developer asks for removal etc. Helliwell is more subjective. The best way to find out is to give them a go. Check out i-tree and CTLA for other systems.

    Cheers
