  1. The snake anchor is a great piece of equipment. It encourages people to set up base anchors properly and makes it super easy to put a lowering device on there. I didnt see the price as a problem. The only negative i had with mine was loosing it. Dont know why it is taking me so long to replace it.

  2. Great thread from start to finish. A great job. Lots learnt James. Reminds me of a job I did at the start of summer, never done anything as big but learnt a lot but we glad for the weekend.

It's also great to see the diagnosis side of things, learning from the video and seeing the wood being used after.

  3. Old snake: at the end of the splice you have the eye which is covered by the cover but then plenty of excess cover. The donaghys instructions say bury the cover between the core and cover one inch at the start of the eye. I thought I had pulled it tight enough but the when smoothing out the rest of the splice the baggy ness appeared again.

Samson intructions say Just bring the cover down the neck of the rope and lockstitch in place making sure its twice the diameter of rope.

Hope that all makes sense, think I'm gonna re-whip it now.

    Thanks

  4. As far am I'm aware the 10mm that i have is still class II, unless you use a modified class I splice. I diidnt have access to the modified class I so stuck with what i knew. The new different colour, armor prus poly is class I. But if anyone can correct please do.

I need to not rush my whipping as it can make a tidy splice look messy. Thanks for the advice tho.

  5. First attempt at classII splice on 10mm AP. Used the Donaghys instructions. I know the eye is baggy, I need the pull the cover tight when tucking it back at the end, not the best wipping either. Any positive advice much appreciated. Thanks

  6. cheers for the replies....was a fun climb...campers could have been moved, but there on 'holiday' so was too much effort. i did have a word with the boss when we fell the stem and it shattered into many pieces! But at least it made it was to log up and move around!!

  7. Had a mature lime tree to take down the other day at work on a campsite. I dead wooded about a year ago so knew it it wasn't in great shape.

Checked the tree over and knew that there was server decay, didnt know the exact extent, so knew it would mean getting up there and getting it down as quickly as possible.

There was a large drop zone which helped me get it down as quick as possible. A clear fell wasnt possible to due campers and a crane was too expensive (if you can put a price on human life)

It wasnt till after i knew the extent of the decay....

Just wondering if anyone of you guys would have spent the time with a resistograph to find out the true extent or would you have just on with it??
