  1. We tried to build one, created several prototypes as there are slight variables within the initial chimney.

Thought we had cracked it, it worked as advertised only 5% of time, rest it was more akin to a open fire.

We tried this around 18 months ago, there were only sketches on the web. No measurements. If someone sells a kit or you can get plans it would be worth it.

We now have log burner with massive doors and that is too efficient!

    Pretty sure there's plans here.😏

  2. I've done a few stoves in the past and this is really just a grander scale with an additional few bits. The difficult bit is getting enough flow and heat into it to support a secondary burn. Not impossible but **** me it's hard with a forced air system, fan/hair drier etc. The the raise in air pressure And heat in combustion at primary and secondary, the increase in volumetric efficiency pressure also increases. Just like an engine more fuel air etc more exhaust. Like an egr. But this ****** burns hotter. Not really something that should be tried domestically, EFW sites require additional fuels/additives to get a decent burn on the go and the cokes up badly. What's wrong with a standard log burner? But if you want a rocket stove then consider changing it slightly and use oil, then **** me you'll have a stove and a half. Even without a forced induction it burns hot and pretty much clean. Add a blower to it and you'll be glowing a cast in no time.

Look in the net and you will find the formula for the pipes, pretty simple really and requires no forced air at all.

The initial J or U shape chambers have moved on and now the fad is for an open fronted glass stove. 😧

  3. You have to really taper the core prior to burying it to stand a chance. A mallet helps as well!!

Yep tapered the core and the cover, core almost falling apart. Mallet was working overtime as well!:blushing::scared1:

  4. Hi, who's splicing Kernmaster with ease? Ive spliced it before and its hard, very hard! Another two attempts at splicing up a length for my lanyard and both failed miserably! Using the New England guide and even taken more strands from the cover and the core but both attempts I can't force home. Any ideas please? I must add its not new rope as well!:blushing:

  5. Is the damage from fraying or eating? Are there teeth marks on the tree? Deer have no top incisors so rip when they bite. Are there any buds/tips left on the floor?

No matter what you do you can not protect trees 24 hours a day. You can shoot deer 1hour before and 1hour after sunrise and sunset but if under pressure the deer will just come to feed under the cover of night!

Fencing is the only guaranteed method and is only as good as the fence.

Getting a night license is not going to happen unless your in Scotland!

Shoot hard and plant sacrificial stock. Remember control the females to control the population!

  6. I tend to agree with this. Deer ofen get blamed for all sorts and not always correctly

Wot type of deer are they?

Really quite unusual for deer to eat bark althou they can cause damage by fraying (generally roe this time of year or really a few months ago marh/Apr time, and ur larger deer about august time)

If its fraying deer can stil knock trees about even with guards on.

Most deer prefer to fray on willow before any other tree so possibly planting some wilow just for that reason and fell when trees are past vurnerable stage?

I'd also stick it in freezer.

Althou the old school stalkers often used the 'stand buck' principle for protecting vulnerable trees, basically a real big buck will cause less damage and hold a bigger area than a small/young buck, so better to leave ur big bucks around vurnable trees.

Not really done as much nowadays as usually stalkers/rangers usually under to much pressure to get numbers throu larder

Good answer! I will reiterate, deer have to be very hungry to eat bark! There is so much food around this time of year!

Fallow have been known to play with tree guards. What does the damage look like and what height? Please put a picture up.
