  1. when i looked into it it seemed they had to be set up to your machine hired one from a firm the head kept slowing down every time you tracked or used the arm even though the machine could be used on a 3 ton machine and it was on a 5 ton from what i found out you need to change the prority flow to the Auxiliaries and not the tracks and arm you can still track and slew while using the flail just a bit slower and when the fllail is off the machine you can use the excavator as normal if that makes any sense?
  2. been coppicing mainly chestnut for around 20 years and the stumps definatly need cutting low and will get even straighter regrowth if the stump is shaped right if you cut the stumps high to try limit grazing damage the shots that grow will get to a size where they will break out as the union will be weak as rob pointed out. As for putting brash on the stumps to protect the regrowth the shoot will grow up through it that bent they wont be any good for anything apart from logs or charcoal The 3 most effective ways to control grazing damage from deer would be either dead hedging deer control program or fencing off the area they sure can do a lot of damage in a very short time
  3. you can get or pull on a rope by putting in a truckers hitch one that a few ties havent heard of a kanter knot/hicth before ? have used a ratchet strap before when stuck trouble is with a rope and ratchet strap you only have so much you can get on the ratchet then you cant pull any more
  4. have a few pulleys karabiners and a petzl pro traxion so havent really got to buy that much
  5. i normally put a rope in the tree then put a prusik loop on that then attach a 5.1 set up which i have set up on a seperate rope attached to a stump with a strop just looking at ways to increase the pull on a few of the bigger ones as they have a fair back lean with out a using it as a bit of a learning curve i guess to see whats possible for future use
  6. hi been doing some coppicing lately and got a lot of trees to pull over in the hedge row cant get a vehicle in there at the moment and to far to carry a turfer winch in there + plus saw and fuel have set up a fiddle block before but was looking for ways to increase the mechanical advantage and come across this on [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OKKJWZExl0]YouTube - How to Setup a Long Slackline[/ame] the guy recons the final set up is a 36.1 advantage? is that right seems like a lot ?

  11. checked the thermostat and seems ok opens and closes dont know any1 with a pressure tester rad doesnt seem to be over hot but havent gone on any really long trips top hose gets hard fairly quick but not sure if thats the norm ? did notice a few bubbles coming out with the water out of the expansion bottle overflow pipe the other day ? i left the engine running for a about 15 20 mins while tying to bleed the air out surely it couldnt have that much air in the system the matrix was only repaied but no leaks from there
  12. hi wondering if anyone can help just had the heater matrix repaired in my truck and having problems not sure if its related to the matrix or not but seem to be losing water. but not over heating it seems to be going into the expantion bottle and leaking out the top when its full and not going back into the rad when it cools down had a sniffer test done to see if it was the head gasket but didnt change colour the bottom hose seems to stay cold had a new rad last year and just replaced the radiator cap have allso notice that the heater doesnt blow as hot as it should though it may be a airlock so left the cap off tied bleeding out the air and toping up the anti freeze as the bubbles come out but still doing it any idea what may be causing this? would be very greatfull off any help

  14. use an axe still a fair bit in hedgelaying or coppicing work and dont see it being a safety issue cutting trees with and axe two old boys i use to work for use to cut all there wood with an axe and many others to you can get control with an axe its just another different skill set to learn same as using a chainsaw you need to learn to use it and sharp it properly was allways taught a sharp tool earns you money a blunt 1 costs you money
