Head Operative – Forestry
Salary: £24,327 to £26,623 – 37hr week

East Lothian Council is looking for an experienced and motivated Arborist to lead its Forestry Squad in undertaking a comprehensive range of practical arboriculture and woodland management operations across the county. On the south east coast of Scotland East Lothian is one of the fastest growing areas in Scotland and offers an enviable environment in which to live and work. As it grows and attracts more residents and visitors East Lothian Council needs staff who understand and value the unique appeal of our area.
Responsible to the Council’s Tree Officer you will be in charge of the day to day front line management and supervision of a team of six.
You will be based at our depot in Macmerry but will work across the whole county in our parks, woods, open spaces, countryside, housing and industrial sites undertaking a variety of tree, woodland and related works.
You will be educated to HNC or SVQ Level 3 in a related discipline and have a minimum of 3yrs experience in undertaking the full range of tree surgery & woodland work to a high standard and will hold the relevant certificates to do so. You will ideally have experience in leading a team and have the ability to liaise with members of the public and clients effectively. You will need to hold a driving license.
