  1. yeah thats my truck.. Purchased from Walkabout services in Queensland. If you want to see crane porn lookup their facebook page.

I dont use that grab on there anymore we set it up on a 8 ton Volvo loader instead ,to make a somewhat larger version of a BMG.

The mecanil grab saw rotator and manual extension was supplied by Cam and we fitted a Cejn quick attach ourselves and got a local engineering shop to make a 45 degree jib. Cost close to 50k when finished

    Hi Guys

I am over here in Australia and looking at purchasing a truck with an Effer 150 S knuckle boom crane. I want to use the truck for multiple purposes including transporting my 6t excavator and moving logs. We don't have many of the Z type folding log cranes that come up for sale used and I realise the benefit to these are having the crane and grab stowed within the dimensions of the truck for transport. I can potentially get the crane into work using slings to lift and unload logs but ultimately would look at adding a grab and rotator to speed up this process. I am not aware of what is involved in adding a grab if extra piping is required and spool valves etc and would like to know if it is a job that be easily enough done. I guess the other thing I will have to consider is having the grab disconnected and strapped to the rear bed of the truck when driving with the crane folded, I can't see this being too much of an issue but interested to know if it will be ok to have the crane laid out over the top of a load of logs when delivering logs to be unloaded? This crane has a remote control and I am curious how hard it will be to add the extra functions to the remote if I eventually added a grab and rotator. I am hoping that having this set up will help me get into Camphor Laurel harvesting as in my part of Australia this tree has become an invasive species and there is plenty of decent sized stands to be taken out and a market exists to purchase the logs. I have learnt a lot by viewing Arbtalk forum as things are done a bit differently up there, I am also wanting a log trailer with crane that I can tow behind my Unimog U1300L offroad as a log forwarder but they are just not available over here and I might have to think about getting something built if I choose to go down that path.

    Regards

    Ben

Small world. That truck came from Broome just a little bit down the road from me.

We have a Progress effer 305 with a grab saw but originally set it up with just a grapple. It was already piped for the jib but also required an addon electrical box to be plugged into the electrical socket where the jib would normally go and also had to be fiddled with from Italy via TeamViewer. Lots of mucking about. It may depend on what electronic control system you have as well,  progress is more complicated than DMU .You are best talking to your local Effer dealer but you may encounter some disinterest if they did not set up the crane originally.

  4. the quoted price at the time (2013) was 50k less than anything available in Oz on the market then. i thought at the time the dealer had made a mistake with the price so i locked it in by giving them a 5k deposit. It took 6 months or so to arrive from Italy

  5. i have owned the first  Cela DT24 to be brought into Oz for quite a few years now.Has now 900 hrs on it

We had a lot of mystery faults in the early years with it and had to replace the main board in the basket and all the rubber cable connections at the basket as well. Apparently there was some form of a recall for the connection  parts but i had to find out about them myself and pay for the parts as well.

Backup was non existent and really not helped either that the dealer was over 3000 klms away.

it still has random fault codes appearing now and then but i have a work around them (very simple but im sure loler would not like it).

I would think Cela have sorted all the faults by now and when it works it is a great lift and i doubt there would be another lift that could match the speed at which you can move the boom plus the 14 metre up and over is great.

What ever lift you go for make sure all parts are available

Price wise it was really cheap in comparison to a similar sized lift (CTE ,Platform Basket)

Bob I've gone for a 6 wheeler to keep the whole thing as short and light as possible. Have have to upgrade the front axle to 10t the take the weight of the crane. That will leave me with approx 6t payload on the back. I don't have any experience with hgvs so have had to collect as much info as I can and make the best decisions I can based on it. Hopefully I hadn't made too many mistakes emoji16.png

the only mistake i can see is that the reach is too short .I hope you are getting a manual section as part of the package .It is definitely required to keep the expensive stuff from getting squashed

Hope I'm not repeating anyone here but I saw this video a while  back and thought it was ace. If you did council tree work you'd be powering through them with these kinds of set ups. You'd be finished and off to the next tree by time a standard team has got their rope bags out.

Yep its the high speed that i like on mine and  the safety aspect as well

I’ve got a Schaffer 3036 and love it. Easy to operate, lifts a ton, goes on the trailer. Very robust and parts are easy to get from local dealer. There’s plenty of second hand ones about between £10-15. New are daft money, quoted £40k for new version of mine!

Cant go past Schaffer quality .Got over 3500 hours on my 2026 now

Thanks for the rundown on your problems and fixes...you're persitant that's for sure, most people would've got shot of the machine a long time ago I'm sure.

The original manual is in German but it is soecufic to my machine as it states the serial number. I've managed to get a copy of an English manual from someone that has a 2018 model of the same machine and theirs states the specific serial number too. Neither include a parts book.

As you previously mentioned the reach on mine is similar to yours, 12m outreach with 100kgs, 11.5 with 120kgs and 9m up to 230kgs

I would not be able to get rid of the machine in good conciseness and also i live in a remote area. My manual has my model number on the inside cover page but the whole book itself is generic and mostly covers other models, is yours the same?

Mine also has the 'crane' hook but only 230kg on it. We have a proper crane so i have never used it

Nice. Similar to the multitel then. They are very versatile aren’t they?

very. Cela now do a 40 metre light truck mount with 17 metre outreach and up and of height of 20 metres. Don't know if I would like being up at 40 with a small canter truck as the base though

I bought it privately from Germany, saw the ad on Mascus. All well and good but getting a loler on it has required a few quid spending on English decals and manual etc.

Does your operating manual look generic or is it a dedicated one?

Also did you manage to source a parts manual. I could never get a parts book from the Oz dealer

That doesn’t fill me with much confidence! How do you like it, problems aside?

you should be alright in chilly UK . Turns out the can bus system can't handle the heat levels we get here. Also some of the rubber wiring connections absorbed water/rain from the air but they have been changed on the later machines i believe.

I have put a cooling fan setup in the processor box and that fixed most  of the random codes appearing on the screen. We have also replaced various wiring loom parts and the top box electronics.  Cela did a retrofit wiring fix but i had to find out about it myself. As in they knew there was an issue but didn't do a recall.

     To the machines capability's.

When it works its fantastic great working envelope good speed and there is nothing else out there similar. Really good for tree work.

Now to parts supply. In Europe you should be ok but in OZ if i didn't  have a backup machine i would have gone broke waiting for parts .

The first part that broke was a track adjuster that split the side of the piston barrell? that took three weeks to  get here. We got that welded up to get the machine out of the property we were working in at the time but then decided not to trust it and waited for the new part .Some of the electronic parts was 3 months.

I am pretty sure this machine is jinxed as every time it performs flawlessly and i then tell my worker 'gee isn't this great 40 trouble free hours" it immediately cracks the shits and stops working!

Who remembers the "death rattle" from an old thermos.

i remember a bloke saying he had never broke a thermos while sitting in a nissen hut at West Dean. only to have the hut take off in a high wind while we was planting trees later and only his thermos broke

  14. crane grab saw is absolute game changer for me.

Trees that used to take the whole day or longer to put on the ground with a crew can now be done in a couple of hours on my own.

Have a look at the treemek instagram page to see how far the Americans are taking the concept

Ive had a platform basket RQG18 for the past 3 years and I’ve got really used to what it can and can’t do, find myself climbing out of the basket on the big trees but all round an excellent energy saver! But I’ve now invested in a CELA DT25 spyder and I’ve got to say the difference is massive. Obviously the extra height reach is a bonus but the configuration of the booms to allow up and over is an absolute game changer. Also the fact that the basket is attached at the top means you can sink yourself down a little into the tips without worrying too much about catching a pipe or cable! Also the fact that there is no knuckle to worry about swinging and hitting stuff. It is also really compact at 800mm wide at its narrowest...I could go on and on!

Get in contact if you would like more info

Finally someone else in the tree world has bought one. Better just hope yours wasn't made on a Friday like mine turned out to be.Mines a DT24 which is an earlier model but is basically the same except for a different basket attachment arrangement.

We have had a lot of electronic problems
