  1. You would never make a salesman Andy ... this is a quote from the AIE firewood guide ...

Poplar Populus Poplar burns well and slowly when properly seasoned. Grade: 2

Probably not Dave, it is just that round here nobody wants it. I know people who burn Poplar succesfully, and in South France it is used in buildings. We milled some of it up a few years ago into railway sleeper sized beams to slot into steel girders for one of the woodchip pens. That has worked well.

  2. Looked at yet another job this week to remove Poplars, approx 100 trees (at least 200tons).

I know it is though of as worthless but I am asking the question is anyone interested?

I know some people mix it in with other hardwoods for firewood.

I seem to be removing a lot of Poplar recently and already have a fair bit so do not want more in my yard.

Thought I would ask before I make plans to have it chipped for biomass.

  3. Hi Paul, No not yet, to be honest I have been getting a fair bit of work for it at the moment so not bothered to push it. I really would like to sell it as a going concern to someone local. Currently got £3k's worth of orders I'm working through.

This really would be a good opportunity for someone.

I may still consider splitting it up tho Paul as I'm running myself ragged trying to do it all at the mo. I'm going to see how it goes once I've got the above work done.

I have decided to keep this equipment for now, It is earning too much for me to be letting it go. I am hoping to get someone on board to help out. Thanks to those who showed an interest.

  4. I'm thinking that maybe everyone in Suffolk is busy and no one is looking for work.......To clarify I am looking for the following.

    A groundsperson, experienced or trainee.

A climber, must have the minimum basic tickets and at least some experience in the trade.

Somebody to assist in running the sawmill which is very busy at the moment.

Somebody to help with firewood production and delivery and general yard duties.

Must have full driving licence and be willing to work as part of a team. Good rates of pay dependant upon experience and ability, 28 days paid holiday and all training and PPE supplied.

  5. Just heard through the grapevine that a place in Essex has been raided and they have found x2 chippers, saws, climbing gear etc. Apparently there is alot of stuff there. One of the chippers recovered was stolen on Monday night and had a tracker which led the cops to the hoard.

Thought it might be useful for those who have had stuff nicked

The crime no is IW104435. I think Suffolk Police are dealing with it 01473 613500

  6. Had a ranger, older one, 04, which was nothing but problems, that in itself was not so good but the problems I had with the dealer and ford themselves means I would never buy another ford. Don't know about toyota, they get good reports. I have had several navaras and although not perfect they do the job and are a good truck but the dealer service and backup is the best I've experienced in a lot of yrs.

  7. Hi Andy - have you sold this kit yet?

  8. try andy gentle,he has 1, in the classified

It's gone now but thanks for mentioning it. Last time I bought a 20ft one the going rate was £7/800 for a good one. 40ft ones are not much more. Transport is ususlly on top of that. Beware of not protecting the hinges tho as that is their weak point as far as thieving T****S are concerned.

  9. I am selling my CTE Z20 Platfrom. It is mounted on a Nissan Cabstar chassis and is in very good condition. It has done 72,437, has almost 12 months MOT and has current LOLER and tax. The boom is in perfect working order and has only done 3100hrs. It has good tyres, is regularly serviced and well looked after. It has a working height of 20m with an outreach of 9m and has proved an invaluable bit of kit for tree work and also hire. I am only selling it as I have bought another. PM or phone for more info. 01787 319200
