  2. Cs50 old money cover dealing with upto 6 emergency trees, windblown, felled trees are different to those still attached in-part to the remainder of the trees canopy or root plate ,

youll need the cs 30 31 beofre cs50

chipper & grinder , tractor with loader trailer & pto implements

all are quoted as old reference to NPTC , I prefer NPTc as other awarding bodys have expiry limits,

theses qualifications are know known awards " licence to practice "

loads of info on Arb Tree surgery Chainsaw Training courses in Yorkshire for Tree Surgeons

scoot about & finf out the info that suits , lots of commercial providers outhere, also colleges, though real world experience from commercial providers often has its benfits to it.

or check out NPTC : National Private Truck Council qualifiactions

  3. we added a mewp to our fleet , it does go out to other but only select ones, really no ones size or type fits all scenarios but are defo a good option, now looking to add another although different from our 4x4 14m

Ipaf isn't the check it is LOLER through inspection by competent person every 6 months expect £45 -£70 a pop

  4. to get in , you'll likely need

cs 30 crosscut & maintenanceso you can cut downed bits for the chipper ? , with 31 as an option

cs 30 allows to polechainsaw , handy for work at height avoidance

cs31 leads on to felling upto 380mm allows to cs32 over 380mm

    cs31 leads to cs39 + need cs38

cs 38 aerial rescue & tree climbing ,act as rescue climber , allows to cs39 use of saw

a chipper ticket is handy as almost all Arb firms have them

so 30, 31, 38 & chipper are a good start then build as you see, all depends on the need of the firm your looking to work with,

the more quals you got the more they can reasonably ask you to do , gives them more reason to say yes

  5. 30 isnt old , I was around that age when I set up Oakdale,

tickets are a gateway, ability & willingness to achieve that cant be taught , Ex Forces, do have a good mind set , but then I would say that , did that myself for a while.

tickets, & trailer towing licence over 750kg

as far as NPTc 30/31 saw maintenance & tree felling to 380mm 38 aerial rescue & tree climbing & 39 using a saw for free fall basic cuts .pole chainsaw , woodchipper & stump grinder are key skills

then add stuff like 32 larger trees, work toward pruning 7 dismantling tickets, though the later is as much about time in the tree & confidence , dont rush to do too much too quick .. get 6 months a year in at least watch & learn, training cant replicate what the real world of ARB teaches you ..

  6. Work ethic is the start of everything, for success at work.

some underlying issues , NOS, lantra ,nptc HSe FIsa, confor ,FC, AA, Isa, large business all have input, too many cooks springs to mind...

currently students are taught to work as individuals , but all ARb work is teamwork.

colleges who propagate their own instructors run the risk of repeating the same mistakes,

pathways to learning and reading materials and method & processes change in industry way faster than ,education centres can usually absorb into formal framework qualifications..

I've known of colleges accepting students who on application didn't meet the minimum requirement of entry , counter intuitive, if they've got a standard then stick too it as if not then its a slippery slope of below par is good enough, WELL ITS NOT

in retail terms if you stack em high enough and sell em cheap enough your on a winner,

commercial experience can only really come from either doing the job with experienced operators in a team or having an experienced operator teaching the student what the day to day requirements are & these requirement darent covered in most cases, this doesn't mean someone instructing who was in industry 210 years ago. or done 2 years at college without real world experinece as really courses are entry level ,

in my military days , I did training, then went to my unit, & they said to forget the training its out of date , heres what we do sunshine now crack on !!

So is the model of understanding the need in industry, not the heart of issue for colleges..

as to placements ,, businesses do take punts on new employees and with that there is a risk in production dips, BUT we all started somewhere, & most folks are wise enough to take a balanced view,

if college struggle to place candidates then out of Funding why not incentivise businesses, they need to make money as do colleges.

  7. & so the word spreads.................... lol

amazing how some times we can't see the wood for the trees

business development with acknowledgment for professional, with the help to assist them to be better at evidencing their commitment to their business & customers.

    Iain

  8. As prompted by PAUL For all Those , It was MY suggestion to Paul , re this model for affiliate contractor seeking progression & recognition.

so please don't blame anyone else if it goes tits up. YEP ITS ME you can shout at

I remember how hard it was when I set up in business all those years ago, to get recognition to show our commitment to doing a good job for our clients to see..

I with others nearly ,very nearly set up a scheme , But the AA have rightly Imo taken this forward & I applaud them for it , some might not .

best regards to All Arb's out there, who do a great job in difficult circumstances

especially where competing with the rogue element, in what can be a cash is king market place.

    Dean

we have tried Masport ..not impressed ,

have honda 536hx pro ,, which are great, but, then tried the vikings 755

so now run those and hondas. Viking about £90 cheaper than hondas we have some uncertainty about how long they will last but they are damn good machines

  10. good on ya for getting to where you are .

as with everything , its your call, many wise words written above pros & cons , if its a bargain & too cheap to walk past buy it you can always sell it on.

cash once spent cant be spent again, however kit can be used or hired out to make money back on that purchase,

try and build a case for it, but if its a large garden ornament then maybe avoid it and spend on a more usable bit of kit. especially if your not flush with money or work

  11. Hi Iain, (another) good initiative to aid an increasing number of enquirers to the site :thumbup1:

Just a thought, does it justify a separate forum maybe? :confused1: If so perhaps Steve could help.

    Cheers..

    Paul

You know me Paul full of it ........ ,, :

good ideas that is .. .hahha

the inspiration comes after 3 guys have phoned ARBSCHOOL over 4 days asking for help guidance and about our courses and a career change, lots for them to think about

    Where , to train

what to courses to train in ,,

What sector , utilities, forestry, amenity ,commercial, charity sector.

    how to find a job

whether to be employed or even self employed .

    wages

whether Uk , Europe ,States , Oz

one issue raised is Why they cant use their re-settlement "Elcas" where they choose too.. ots to think about much to discuss
